AT Campaign Rules

Hi Guys,

Myself and my regular gaming buds are working our way through Blackstone (which is great so far BTW) at the moment, however we do like to plan out what we'll be doing next too.

We're all pretty sold on the idea of stompy death robots (what's not to like?), we don't have any of the books etc yet, especially with a rumoured reprint of the "Big Ol' Box" coming soon.

I was wondering though, are there any campaign rules in the book? We're all experienced enough to cobble something together, but if the work has already been done then there's no need to reinvent the wheel.

I'm really keen on an escalation type campaign where you start with a single Warlord and then add further components to your force and earn honours for individual engines.

Thanks in advance.

Rik

I’d suggest if you’re looking to spend money on AT, instead of getting the Grand Master edition if it comes back in stock, you could grab the £100 Titan bundle and a rule book for £135.

To compare,

Both contain a rules set

Both contain one Warlord with Volcano cannons.

Grand Master gives:

An additional Warlord

Six Knights

Two knight terminals

Possibly some reference sheets? I’ve never seen the box in person.

My suggestion gives.

A Reaver Titan

Two Warhounds.

Saves some £££

With my suggestion, you get a legal 1250 point list. You obviously lose a Warlord and the knights, but I think that’s not an awful trade. You’d need to buy a Reaver at minimum to make a legal maniple and if you want a second Warlord, most would recommend getting the Plasma kit to give you more options. Thought it was worth making you aware of your options. If you want to compare like for like, the extra £35 can potentially help to buy you a second hand set of Warlord sprues give or take. The release of the new Plasma Warlord has driven down the prices of Volcano Cannon Warlords.. I’ve seen full Warlord boxes selling for £45 on trading sites.Or you could buy a second Reaver (either the current kit or the alternate weapons kit when it drops) to give you a full Maniple. I think it’ll be around the 1500-1600 points mark in total.

Hope this is of use and feel free to chip in if I’ve missed anything.

Edited for poor maths.

Get the titan mantiple and then go to town. This game is great! Models, gameplay and tactical depth are 10/10.

Yo there will be updates and campaigns.

I want people to get into this game for for the communities to grow!

Also I’m drunk

Good to see more people interested in the AT!

To answer your question, there are no campaign rules in the basic book, just the basic, advanced and optional rules.

However, the first expansion of the game “Titandeath” will be coming soon and we should expect some additional campaign rules as well as more Legio-specific rules as only two Legios are covered in the main rule book.

And as regards getting the new boxed set, unless you plan to split it with a friend, I’d agree with the others and suggest you go for a Maniple - the game becomes infinitely more tactical with the different classes of Titans on the the table. :)

Thanks everyone, the Titan Battlegroup has been pre-ordered, along with an LED set designed for the Armiger, I'm going to see what I can sensibly get this into before deciding if I should order more of them. and If not then I can use it in an Armiger or Redemptor.

The CR2032 battery, holder, and switch wouldn't fit in the body. I'd have needed to run the wires down the legs into the base and I wanted to get them sprayed.

I'm lighting up Perturabo's Tormentor instead: the four headlights, volcano cannon, and a pair of void shield generators.

About the campaign rules I used the hh book 4 system for mine: you divide the planet in a number of locations with control benefits and terrain traits, then you give both sides a number of attack points which will be the total nr of battles fought. Both sides roll off the winer picks a location and attacks it spending an attack point. A battle is fought and if the attacker wins he puts a control point there. Both sides alternate attacking until tere are no more attack points. Whoever has more control points holds the location and attached benefits.

At the end of the campaign yhe side with most locations wins.

You could combine your escalation idea by increasing the points for each turn (2 attacks). The control benefits can be anything, strategic moves, titan buffs...

I'm thinking on adding some experience rules im my next Voss Prime campaign.

If your titan survives the battle he gains experience: +1 for surviving +1 for killing a titan of lesser scale or any number of knigts +2 for destroying a titan of equal scale +3 for killing a titan of bigger scale. You can spend three xp in a roll on the "veteran traits" D10 table. The traits could buff your crew, rolls or engine. If your titan gets killed it loses all xp and traits.

You would agree at a number of points for the batyle. If a titan survives note it down, And can be used in future battles until it dies.

I think that can use some refinement. It punishes Warhound players and rewards just spamming tankier Warlords.

I like the idea of a Titan's death affecting past one game, but it seems unbalanced. Maybe try something similar to Kill Team's mechanic where a dead engine has to roll on a table (maybe d10, maybe d6) with the chance to "die", sit one game out, recover fine or gain some experience.

Just a thought.

Ah but warhound has it easier to earn xp if it kills any titan it autoearns an advance. It comes to sense that crews of sturdier engines will have a longer life expectancy.

The system could diferentiate between titans that blow up and those that just fall with a higher chance of recovering your crew if you've won.

the command knight in a lance could also have his own advancement table.

Sounds like a neat system. I'd suggest not making it too punishing, certainly for the first play through. People want to watch their favourite Titan levelling up, not watch their foes stomp through the ashes of their once glorious Legio.

Though I suppose playing a game where people are trying to actively shield their Titans from damage would play very differently from a standard game.

Keep us informed of how things work out.

I would say that deciding a points limit for what each side's Titan Legion is bringing to the campian, say 2 or 3 times the points limit of what you expect to use in a single game(depends on how long you want it to go on for, and how much you'd want the loss of a single Titan to hurt, debate it amongst yourselves for what the "fair" amount would be), and comit to a list of Titans withn that limit that you'd pick from for each battle, maybe having options for swaping out weapons(but only if you already "bought" them in that starting list).

if Titans Die, they are removed from play, but if they're just damaged... maybe every surviving Titan should get a few free repair rounds/phases between battles(2? 3?), but otherwise retaining the damage across multiple fights. thus creating difficult choices like leaving your heavily damaged Warlord off the field for 2 or 3 fights so it can heal up, or risk loosing it because you really need the firepower.

Well there are some games where a “dead” model comes back with certain number of wounds or HP left so that one unlucky turn of shooting doesn’t cost you a campaign. We’ve all lost an HQ model to a crazy turn in a game of Fantasy or 40k (I took down a Chaos lord with a Night Goblin Fanatic) and it would suck to lose, say, a 500pt Warlord to something flukey.

then you would have to include  an option where you can fire a damaged titan for a fresh one without the experience like they did in battlefleet gothic.

weird things will happen, you might win a game and then lose the next due to all your titan being in bad shape

What about a bloodbowl style *damage chart*

-no long term damage

-unavailable for 1 game

-unavailable for 1 game and a stat penalty (move, to hit roll, ld, etc)

-destroyed

Roll after the game, less likely to survive if you blow up (minimum of MNG), some weapons if they do the final damage modify too,

-Flamers, not destroyed but crew lose exp (actual crew deaths).

-Melta and Volcano weapons more likely to destroy.

-Gatling and Bolter weapons can't destroy as easily.
