New to DE, help wanted on my list

Hi there! Ive recently been pulled to collect some DE, initially for the look, but wanting a workable list that is fun to play. So lots of strings pulling me in different directions

 

My main aim is Coven, already have Rakarth and 5 Wracks on the way to test the waters. Now to fill it out and keep my wallet intact I have access to a copy of Gangs of Commorragh and the current battleforce is Wych based (granting me 10 hellions, 9 Reavers, a Venom, bonus HQ, then Wyches)

But would Wych + Coven work? How would I go about killing vehicles?

Are Wracks good in Venoms? I like the idea of converting wrack gunners and drivers in them, but then Rakarth needs hos own Venom to keep up.

For a small points group Id like to try

I have the Gangs of Commorragh box on the way so I am committed to a Wych cult but I noticed the rule granting CP for 3+ patrols, so have considered splitting my Wych Cult into two with an additional Succubus. By marking them as different cults I can specialize their role (one going as fast as possible to tie up the enemy, The other going for the kill)

This grants me 3+4+D3 CP to use for flyover and protection strats.

Patrol: Prophets of Flesh

- Urien Rakarth: Diabolical Soothsayer, Warlord

- 10 Wracks Electrocorrosive whip, Hexrifle, Ossefactor, Ossefactor

- Talos: Macro-Scalpel, Macro-Scalpel, Two Haywire Blasters

 

Patrol : Cult of the Red Grief

Succubus: Agoniser, Archite Glaive, The Blood Glaive

- 5 Wyches, Agoniser, Splinter pistol, Shardnet and impaler

- 6 Hellions, Agoniser and Splinter Pistol, Phantasm Grenade Launcher

- 6 Reavers, 2 Grav-talons, 2x blaster

- Venom: Chain Snares, Grisly Trophies, 2x Splinter Cannon

 

Patrol: Cult of the Cursed Blade

- Succubus: Archite Glaive, Blast Pistol

- 5 Wyches: Blast Pistol, Power Sword, Hydra gauntlets

- 3 Reavers: Grav-Talon, Heat lance

- Venom: Chain Snares, Grisly Trophies, 2x Splinter Cannon

I've yet to get my DE on the table in 8th, but this looks like a good start to me. DE are squishy aside from the Coven elements so numbers are essential. Mix in some mobility and hard hitting and you've got the basis for a good DE list :) Don't forget pictures ;)

Thanks! Now I hear about the new points adjustments coming in the next week im not sure if i should hold off on ordering too much because it could see some changes... dunno if anything here is game breaking (maybe hellions get a points drop!)

 

As for numbers the breakdown:

3 HQ characters

26 troops (wyches, hellions, Wracks)

9 bikes

2 Venoms

1 Talos

2 blasters, 1 heat lance, 4 splinter cannons, assorted hexrifles and twin haywire.

 

Seems light on troops? Especially for how squishy it all is.

 

Not 100% certain on paint, Wracks will be classic Cenobite hellraiser motif

Then Wyches either dark grey/orange or shadowrun style glowing blue bits on black with orange markings.

 

Might let the wife decide on scheme for Wyches...

I'd hold off just in case - it's not long to wait on the chance it does alter your decisions. At the least you've got plenty to be keeping yourself busy with for the moment :wink: Colour scheme sounds good to me, and not just because I fairly recently completed a Shadowrun game :tongue.: Keep us updated with your progress :)

Thanks for the support, so I had a trial game go a bit south but fine for first go (used friends eldar to proxy DE, not the best list)

So now I'm building towards what I feel is good balance of what ive already bought + cheap buildup, with model variety and decent table usefulness, with some tricks in there too.

3 Patrol (+4 cp)

Archon bonus -1 CP strat to grant other HQ’s Warlord traits

Haemonculus (Prophets of flesh) +D3 Trait

So 3+4+D3-1 CP (6+D3 CP) also granting Succubus a trait like +1 Invuln save.

 

Kabal of shooty rerolls and ignore cover

Archon w/index blaster, Soulthirst trait

5 kabalites w/blaster in Venom w/ 2 Splinter Cannons

5 kabalites w/blaster in Venom w/ 2 Splinter Cannons

 

Cult of Advance and charge

Succubus w/ blood glave relic, hyper-swift reflexes trait

5 wyches w/ agonizer, shardnet in venom w/ 2 cannons, grisly trophies and hooks

9 Reavers w/3 blasters, 3 grav-talon, agonizer

8 Hellions w/ agonizer

 

Prophets of flesh

Haemonculus with Electro-corrosive Whip

5 Wracks, ossifier, agonizer

Mostly everyone is mobile and the haemonculus+wracks act as a bodyguard deathstar for archon, whose reroll buff isnt needed for the kabalite venoms anyways (all RF reroll 1’s from kabal, and blasters are embarked so dont benefit from auras)

Then everything just goes up doing what it does best. Depending on oponent my +1 T Reavers can use DS strat to blast some fools out of the sky and charge in to evicerate.

The taint of craftworlders may have doomed you from the start, but first games usually go pear shaped anyway and you learn a lot more from losing :) What where the things you took away most from it? Looks like you've gone for more numbers and mobility?
