Vigilus Formation Expectations

Prot

Recommended Posts

We had formations in 7th and it looks like 8th will bring them back with a pay scale based on perceived power of the formation, and command points.

What we had was:

Grand Coven.

This was a big one, with a somewhat dubious ability unless you filled it right up with max units of 9 models (Huge army, huge cost to do so).

How would this translate into 8th: Grand Coven Keywords = Strategem 1 CP at the beginning of the game: your Rubric/Scarab Sorcs from this detachment all know 1 extra ability.

Rehati War Sect.

This was one I used quite a bit. Translating this to 8th might be something like:

Rehati Keyword added to one detachment:= Strategem: 1 CP at the beginning of a Psychic phase all Rehati Psychic tests taken within 9" of Magnus are taken on 3D3 taking two highest dice (but perils still occur on double 1/6)

I'm super pressed for time but I wanted to start this thread so we could discuss this here and expand on it as Vigilus comes out. Add what you remember or would like to see!

Good topic Prot.

I would need to bust out WOM which I am not able to do though I also remember

Ahriman's Exiles. This may not work as a title since our big HQs have been playing nice.

Sekhamet Conclave (thanks chicken) though no time to brainstorm on these till later tonight.

The War Coven has appeared in multiple forms going all the way back to Apocalypse, as has the Sekhmet Conclave (though not always by that name), so I suspect we'll have one "Pile of Sorcerers" Detachment and one "Pile of Terminators" Detachment.

Specialist Detachments don’t grant special rules on their own; they just grant access to a couple Stratagems, a Relic, and a Warlord Trait.

What I’d like to see is a detachment based around the rubricae units with a stratagem to boost their durability against plasma weapons and their equivalents, and a stratagem to boost their offensive output.

Unpopular opinion: We won't get one. The Black Legion is at work on Vigilus and the chaos material will go to them.

That’s a prediction, not an opinion. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were excluded, but they put out a pretty big spread of factions in book one.

I would bet my bottom dollar we get these.

Something focusing on models that are explicitly psykers. (rehati, Exiles, something akin to it)

and the other would be "all is dust" models, Rubricae, Scarab Occult.

Another possibility would be "war herd" for goats.

Do we know that we will get one for Vigilus? Or do you intend the topic to be speculation on what kind of formations we get, when we get them?

Just for fun. Speculation... expectation, whatever. Remember there's a second book coming. So there's a chance. :)

Can't wait. 2019 may just start off really strong for chaos. Hopefully while doing so they toss 1k sons a bone, though since Tau and Necrons are absent from this particular series of battles in this campaign TS and DG may follow suit and be absent. Meaning we would get something following it at some point.

Honestly none. Every faction shouldn't be in every campaign book.

Unless it is a generic like the indomitus crusade vets where Heretic Astartes would get some basic bonus.

If we do get something specific, i think it would something new and not based off a 7th edition formation.
