CA changes and impact for DG

Did the Land Raider drop enough to become usable? I miss seeing them on the tabletop

In the main CSM forum people were speculating about the Achilles variant which received a ~50 pt discount. It is still more expensive than a normal raider but features 19 wounds and a 4++ save.

The Achilles is definitely a helluva tank, it just doesn't have the carrying capacity.  I bet it would deal with a knight pretty easily though.

Would that be because it's not supposed to be a transport?

Is it just me that has never considered putting anyone inside of it?

No you're absolutely right, I guess I should have been more clear.. a transport is what I am looking for. That's what I mean by "miss seeing them on the table top."

It is a completely awesome combat tool by itself without the transport capacity though, you are correct.

That's exactly why I use the Spartan with my World Eaters! The Spartan is definitely a tank that is absolutely worth it, 8 lascannon shots is nothing to sneeze at and it's plenty survivable wit T8 and 2+ sv. I think eventually I'll even get one for my SWs (for 30k and 40k use).

DG just doesn't have enough CC oriented units that I think would get use out of a Spartan. I'd rather deep strike Blightlords than throw them in a Spartan. I wouldn't want a 20 unit of CC focused Plague Marines either.

With MMs being 24" range and the soul burner being 48 I actually think the Achilles fits in well with the rest of the army. The majority of DG weapons are in the 18-24" effective range because of Inexorable Advance. Everything should be moving forward up the table to engage.

I can see putting a 5 man plague marine squad kitted for melee inside, maybe with a tallyman. Flails, some axe+knife and/or dual knife would do nicely to hop out and keep busy any lighter units that want to try and bog the achilles down. Or send it upfield to drop off the melee squad to help out your bloat-drones and daemon prince first wave while everything else marches up the board. I'd love to try out a fleshmower and tallyman on primaris...

I think that we need to analyze the new missions and then change the way we build the lists.

For example now, you often have to contest/steal objectives since you score at the end Of the battle round and sometimes at the beginning Of tour turn.

I think we need a core Of troops to hold the central objectives, something fast and durable to contest and some reliable damage dealers with a lot Of shots. Troops and infantry will be key in these new CA missions.

I think drones are also looking very Hood because Of the special mission with the "fly" keyword.
