CA should be digital download only. It doesn't even need any fancy formatting and such. Most people need just a couple pages out of that entire "book" relating to the army they play (and a much lower minority would need a few more for a second army).

GW needs to keep points completely out of the codex, period. Then have a points PDF per army that they update regularly, much like errata. It could even BE the erratta document, since I don't think they've ever published a book that didn't get errata at some point.

That sounds like a possible solution.

the book has all the rules, and stats.

the pdf has all of the power levels and points.

--------

edit to build on this.

The Book

- has all the rules

- has all the stats

- has a big background/history of (insert army)

(replacing the points/power pages below)

- has a quick couple of pages on assembly

- has how to paint couple of pages

- has multiple army color themes

- has some quick ideas for converting.

PDF download

- Army specific

- Errata's and faqs

- Power levels

- Point values

I really have two main issues with how they update points.

1) they should mark the new changes.

2) It forces a second book for list building. I really would like to only have to look at one book for list building.

Edit: Give me all the points in chapter approved for each fraction. So I can just use it.

I mean, what they *should* do is have a free (or $5) listbuilding app with constant updates and just sell models and codexes with lore, pictures, and listbuilding ideas. Datacards give them something else to sell that is already a better value than the codex (which is saying something when they are $10 packs of cards).

They’re building a points based army builder app but 40k is far more complicated than AoS so I think it’s taking a bit longer than expected.

The new missions are great, first strike replacing first blood, new deployment (whole armies at once, number of drops irrelevant), intercessors data sheet, a pretty sweet character creation section, all sorts. I read it through in a couple of hours - I almost got a box of devastators at the same time which are $92, so that's a fair price comparison IMO.

Should have said, intercessor sergeant / pack leader can take a power sword, chainsword or power fist.

Second edit: tabling peeps isn't going to win games like it does now, the game continues and victory points are counted, the winner being the player with most. It will change a lot of lists and hopefully bring back an infantry focus - let's hope it's adopted as standard. Along with the point drops it will make a big difference.

Yea I’m not trying to be negative and I do like the addition to this rule but that seems like such a wierd one to codify.

Most of my games in 8th I suffer a ton of casualties but I do have a higher than 50% win rate and I do think that is from playing the objective and making smart choices etc. I have been fully tabled exactly once, it was on T2 by ynarri and when I say ynarri you likely are picturing the exact army.

They got first turn and had so many bikes and flyers that I was on the back foot for the whole short game. Even if I had gotten to actually move and do stuff and got an early lead, they’d have like 3 or 4 turns using jet bikes to grab everything.

Can you guys think of an example where you got tables but had such a lead that you got screwed where now you’d win? It sounds like a rule to make good games better, but really doesn’t help extreme (poop)stomps.

I print the relevant pages to list building at work and keep them in a file folder. Pro tip: making your lists in Excel at work often looks like work.

I do something similar, print the page out and put it in the back of the codex. Except I also take the little "sign here" tabs and put the new cost on every unit on them next to the unit. Doesn't damage the book and make it so you aren't going back and forth in the book.

This will be errata into TWC having 2 point SS. There's no reason for them not to have it. I know about the separate codex entry. Since everyone else got the same SS discount there's no reason for it not to apply to TWC.

To devils advocate, the reason is that they split it in the first place...

I think they did it initially because they were so strong previously. I agree, it should be 2, but to consider it a forgone conclusion is something I wouldn’t recommebd

Update....the flaw in the rules was acknowledged

Gah CA 2019 ahoy....

There will be a big faq for CA I think a month or so after GSC dex launches

I know i was mainly commenting on how much they let us inside the process in terms of lead times during this release.
