Titanicus gaming suggestions - help please

Had my first game of Titanicus today, Warlord, Reaver and two Warhounds versus Warlord, Reaver, Warhounds and knight banner and to be honest it left me kind of flat, my Titans

Incoming indirect missile fire meant my shields just collapsed every time any of my Titans were actually targeted, but apart from when I managed to draw a bead on his Reaver with my Warlord's volcano cannons it seemed take me an age to do any actual damage, including blowing a full round of fire from my Reaver at a damaged shieldless Warhound without really doing anything.

Have I got the wrong weapons equipped (it felt like I could manage shields fine but then couldn't hurt the engines afterwards) or is it the dice hating me?

I ran:

Warlord (missile pods + 2 Volcano)

Reaver (Missile pod, Gatler and tri laser)

Warhound 1 (twin turbo laser)

Warhound 2 (Plasma and gatler)

The only thing I can think of doing based on the weapons in the boxes is to put the second Warhound plasma on one of the two hounds, or just wait for the other Reaver to come out.

Alas it's the other way round, shields go down quick, but then I just bounce off the titan's armour - unless the Volcano hits its very tough work to do any meaningful damage.

Warlord isn't done and all need decals and basing, but decent progress so far:

You're not wrong, like your Warhounds are probably fine. Are you targeting the same model as much possible?  Using First Fire when you can?

Try swapping a Warlord volcano with a plasma and the Reaver laserblaster with a volcano (same points). Plasma/megabolter is a good combo on a Warhound.

I've also been told it's worth it to run your Warhounds as much down a flank as possible to potentially get rear shots. You're at +1str from a flank and +2str from behind, that can really beef up those plasmas.

Decent progress indeed! A well painted force there Cleon and you’re a Reaver away from an Axiom Maniple!

I have to agree, Mega Bolters seem really useful (on paper at least - because I have yet to play a game). I also like the flamers if you’re brave enough to close with the enemy...

What, your plans from here? Adding another Reaver you get an Axiom but if you add two Warhounds you get a Venator light Maniple with an attached Warlord...

Thanks, at the moment I've also got a banner of knights assembled but unpainted, I was going to go with Hawkshroud, but now they are putting knight decals on the Legion decal sheets I might leave them unpainted until I know which house comes on the Astorum sheet.

Other than that the new Reaver seems a must have and probably a melta/chainfist loadout - then possibly donate the Volcano to my existing Reaver more often than not.

Then the Plasma Warlord does seem more my style than the Volcano cannons, but I might add two more Warhounds before a second Warlord.

I tend to buy models I like and then try and turn them into game lists rather than target a specific formation, so I'll probably try both formations a some point, possibly a delay on progress after this batch as I have Blackstone Fortress to paint too.

Love the way the Dropzone terrain is getting re used! It doesn't exist in plastic yet but a gatling for the warlord might help, not sure if you can use a spare assault cannon as a proxy

Aye, but it needs to be built up.  This is a 3d printed body meant for another gun with a Contemptor AC on the front, the ammo box glued underneath, and the Contemptor forearm glued to the top to form a bicep. I'm going to cut down the shield, the body of the gun is from a design meant for an an Imperial Knight.
