Paladin777
Now that they’ve come down incredibly in price, what are peoples opinions on chain fists for the models that can take them? I think they probably worth it myself! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352266-chain-fists/ Share on other sites

Xenith
Sharing specific point values is against the rules, I believe. They're 1 AP better than fists, but still with D3 Dam. Enough to negate a 3+ save, but that 3+ save only gets a 6+ vs the fist. I dont know what the new points are, but that extra AP is only really worth an additional 1 - 2 pts to me. Any harder targets (special characters, etc) will have invulnerable saves, which fists are better against, point for point. I'd have really liked them to do something more interesting with chainfists, like x3 strength, or 2D3 damage vs vehicles for example. Maybe if they were a flat 3 damage or caused mortal wounds on unmodified 6s on top of D3 damage they would be more worth it. I will still take them on a couple Tactical TDA because I have them WYSIWYG'd. Paladin777
They are actually a flat 2 damage, and they are only 2pts more than a current power fist cost which is half of what they used to be. Xenith
They are actually a flat 2 damage... Whoops, good catch! I guess they have the reliability? Although that's better on a single character, over a squad Dd3 will average out to 2D per unsaved wound. I think I'd still prefer the hammer though. Straight up 50% more damage per wound than the chainfist. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352266-chain-fists/#findComment-5213209 Share on other sites
Paladin777
That’s true, but pretty much all the non-character models that can take a hammer usually can’t take a chain fist and vice versa so it’s real competition are power fists. On characters I have to agree that the hammer is definitely the way to go! Indefragable
Unless they changed something recently, chainfists are a flat D:2. Pros/cons to that, but I would much prefer as @Xenith says and do 2D3 damage to vehicles/MC's. Diagramdude
Personally I'll take a flat 2 over D3 every time. For 2 points more than a powerfist the chainfist is in a good spot esp factoring in how useful AP4 is against vehicles. Morticon
Without a doubt, better choice- and would take one wherever possible over the fist. However, who can actually benefit from them? Terminators? Who else? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352266-chain-fists/#findComment-5213358 Share on other sites
Panzer
For 2p more than a power fist it definitely sounds like the better option. D1d3 screws you over just way too often causing you to need an additional attack to go through because you rolled that pesky 1 when the enemy model still has two wounds left. Plus AP-4 is never a bad idea ... some people just love rolling 6s for their saves when it's important lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352266-chain-fists/#findComment-5213383 Share on other sites
Xenith
who can actually benefit from them? Terminators? Who else? My first thought is the cataphract captain. Comes stock with a chain fist which might be viable if it's gone from 1t less than a hammer to 2 pts more than a fist. 9x19 Parabellum
They really ought to have differentiated it from a power fist. Something like "-1 penalty to hit except when targeting vehicles". The straight 2 damage is nice, though, over the d3 variable. Diagramdude
A Cataphractii Captain with Chainfist and Combi-melta is now 121 points. A 46 point drop from Chapter Approved. Ekfud
Glad this got discussed... I just got a box of stock terminators (they will double for Space hulk) and was tossing up on loadouts. The chainfists make them look tough anyway :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352266-chain-fists/#findComment-5213484 Share on other sites

Though, to be fair, why not a hammer for 5 points more? :/ Especially with artisan.
