Ishagu
So, post Chapter Approved this unit has gained a massive reduction in points and is now a contendor for one of the best anti armour units available to Marines. 168 points - Cheap! Lower than a Predator. Two Twin Las Cannons - Excellent weapons The Contemptor has BS 2+ and a 5+ invul, and benefits from Chapter Tactics. Fantastic Accuracy that is still effective at even the lowest bracket. This is pretty great by any standard and can compare in efficiency to the mini Knights! A new top unit in the Marine arsenal. Gederas
I wouldn't say it's 'hidden'. It's just not immediately apparent unless you look at it. Plus: The fact that it's NOT A RELIC despite the other Forge World Contemptor is a relic is amazing. I'm planning on getting a few for my Deathwatch, definitely. PeteySödes
I still like the relic version though, ~35 more points for better wounds, save, a fnp, and flat movement. The relic tax almost never effects me in that slot. I never need excuses for dreads though sooooo I’m probably not the target market for this revelatory thread..... :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352268-contemptor-mortis-dreadnought-a-hidden-gem/#findComment-5213359 Share on other sites
Tokugawa
Hidden? Don't think so. Do you pay too less attention to non-primaris units? They are already semi-competitive long before CA2018. With TL-LC cost 50pts not 40pts, they may be not as hot as their chaos counterparts(Butcher contemptors), but already better than any Codex options. templargdt
Not bad, yes. Especially good with Raven Guard. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352268-contemptor-mortis-dreadnought-a-hidden-gem/#findComment-5213416 Share on other sites
Dracos
Not bad, yes. Especially good with Raven Guard. I'd purchased a RG Contemptor for this very purpose .... and then went and bought two Xiphons. Thanks for the reminder. I wasn't planning on using it as a relic but now I'll take a look at both options with all the combined point drops. Well seeing as CA isn't even officially out yet you can't say I've not been paying attention. The unit's reduced points is what makes it appealing. autek mor
i'm glad that i'm not alone noticing this unit. plus you have the option of adding a cyclone missile launcher to relic and non relic versions thanks to the FAQ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352268-contemptor-mortis-dreadnought-a-hidden-gem/#findComment-5213476 Share on other sites
CCE1981
It's Reduced Points cost is enough to add a Cyclone Missile Launcher to bring it up to its original value, where it was perfectly fine before. And with Servitors dropping massively (40pts for 4 w/2xHeavy Bolter) you can get 2-3 in a detachment easily! Guest MistaGav
For those that want to save a few points as well, the regular Mortis dreadnought with 2x Twin Lascannons is 155 points which is still great as a cheap anti-tank platform but I think the few points difference would sway most to the Contemptor pattern instead. I think I'll be taking at least 2, if not 3 in my armies now. I took three of the 2x Twin Lascannon Mortis Dreadnoughts before Chapter Approved, at the 16 pts higher than a Lascannon Predator I thought they were well worth it. Now that they are LESS that that Predator they are insanely good! 168 pts for a 2+ BS and 5++, and close combat ability over the Predator at the loss of 1 wound yes please! BolterZorro
Are you speaking about this one "Contemptor Pattern Lascannon" at FW? https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-IE/Contemptor-Pattern-Lascannon Is it compatible with plastic contemptor sold at GW? BolterZorro
1. I can't find "mortis contemptor". Where is it? 2. Are you speaking about this one "Contemptor Pattern Lascannon" at FW? https://www.forgewor...ttern-Lascannon Is it compatible with plastic contemptor sold at GW? 3. What should be the body of the contemptor, in the army list : contemptor or relic one or...? 4. In the contemptor datasheet, I can't find the dual laser. Where is this option and cost? In the books, it's in the Forge World Index; on Battlescribe it's under FW Adeptus Astartes, so you'll need to add it in to the list separately to any other Marine force (if you nest your forces in the options, then you can add them to the relevant detachment). 3. I think would work. The biggest distinction is the weaponry; since the Contemptor Mortis has paired arms with twin ranged weapons it'll be easy enough to identify. 4. It's a separate entry from the Contemptor or Relic Contemptor, both of which are Elite choices while the Mortis is a Heavy Support. What do you think about Contemptor vs regular dread with dual lazcan? The conversion is extremely easy to do! Just cut the plastic Contemptor arms in the round part under the shoulder pad. You can easily separate the shoulder from the weapon whilst keeping a nice mount in which to place magnets. When its all done and over with, you should have a magnetized DCCW, Kheres Assault Cannon plus whatever FW weapons you get. I did a couple of them recently. (did the points cost of leviatan change? what is the pts cost?) Leviathans on the right. They dropped 6pts total, final 303. They are definitely well worth it! Add a Librarian to give them Might of Heroes for toughness 9 coupled with a 4++ and they will fave tank a stupid amount of shooting! (did the points cost of leviatan change? what is the pts cost?) The Contemptors are identical, it's just a trick of the light/posing of the model. Leviathans on the Right. The white one is the standard Leviathan model, the one with the gold trim is the Carab Culn model with the Red Scorpions iconography removed.
