Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought a hidden gem?

too bad they are forgeworld :-(

What is/are the best build/s for them ?

Mine are the plastic version from the Heresy boxed sets.  I added FW Lascannon arms (which are comparatively cheap at $13USD).  You can usually find those plastics NoS in eBay for around $35USD, total cost was ~$70USD per dread after Lascannons.

Lascannons are by far the best option IMO, though you can put quad Autocannons and a Cyclone on them for only 18pts more.

Why is Forgeworld a problem?

First because many little tourney don't accept them

then because they are not in classic codex lists

and then because of FW (money) price.

and final because working with approximative resin kit is far less easy than going full plastic kit.

So I'm currently working on a Contemptor Mortis with two twin Lascannons.

Should I add a Cyclone missile launcher? It would make it a petty fearsome tank hunter. I'm aware it might make it into a more juicy target for an opponent, but it will likely be flanked by two Repulsors so it won't be obvious...

I like them but the points almost always is the amount i need for something more needed. I think if you have the armor saturation though making each target as equally nasty is always good. Forcing hard(bad) choices is the name of the game.

I’ve found the cyclone is wasted points due to the reduced range. You’re gonna get 1-2 turns of shooting out of it tops, and puts the contemptor the wrong side of 200.

I frequently run 3x Contemptor Mortis Dreadnoughts with Twin Lascannons. I ran them before the price drop they were worth their points then, even more so now. The Cyclone isn’t needed, they take a lot of a beeting before going down. Of course I also have a Leviathan with 2x Storm Cannon Arrays with a Librarian casting Might of the Ancients on him. The Leviathan usually lasts 4 turns from things like 6x Lemon Russes and a Shadowsword, or a Knight 4x Lemon Russes and 2x Lascannon Heavy Weapons teams. The Contemptors are my heavy supports of choice, near a Captain means they do better than 3x Predators, only when the Predators use their strategem do they marginally beat them out.

So to answer your question no to the Cyclines, 12x Lascannons at 2+ to hit, with a invulnerable, and better WS than a Predator are amazing run together for 1 CP you have a 98% chance your Lascannons will hit. It makes those Mortis Contempors the anti-tank heavy support Marines need.

Elites tax is not a hard sell for marines. There something in that slot in most of the lists anyways.

Which weapons setup would you take to accompany a Leviathan? My thoughts are dual lascannon for everything t8 or above. The Leviathan can scratch something that size as well in a bind and it leaves the opponent with a though choice in which one to shoot at.

I've been liking twin Autos since they have great range and are dangerous to everything. Its also because i feel like you add las and the opponent instantly bumps it up in priority. My rifleman seems to just pump out shots all game un disturbed, its great.

Do you play the normal Conti or the relic version?

Hmm...three Contemptors with Lasercannons...sweeeet :smile.:

The cheaper Mortis, but I'll try the relic variant out as well.

I run a pair of Relic Contemptors with Lascannons and a pair of Redemptors with full dakka loadouts.  It's comparatively cheap and gives a ton of versatility.

Redemptors are great at melee killing vehicles or gunning down hordes and the Relic Contemptors are insanely durable with highly accurate AT.

Direct Anti-tamk can be pretty hard to come by for Deathwatch so I crafted this from a wreck of a plastic contemptor chassis and my bits box. Fully magnetised and with a choice of loadouts. Couldn't have cost me more than £10.

I'll be working on converting my two Ultramarines Contemptors to dual-wield at some point too. Well worth their points cost.
