Mix & Match Chimeras

Just an idea, but what do you guys think about using Chimeras from a Tallarn detachment to transport infantry from a Armageddon detachment?

It would let you get the benefits of Armageddon's improved rapid-fire range, whilst also allowing your Chimera's Heavy Bolters or such to fire at full BS on the move.

Thoughts?

@TheShredder Evidently, you can do that for RAI. However, you wouldn't be able to use the orders or strategems for either of the units respective to each other. All those rules require the <regiment> keyword. I think you'd have to have two separate detachments, as well, and you'd have to have enough Tallarn units to have a Chimera for each of your Armageddon Infantry squads. If losing those benefits doesn't bother you, then you can get pretty mobile armored fist squads, albeit without strategems.

@mertbl That's exactly how I put my Guard list together. I've got several mechanized squads of Armageddon Infantry in a Battalion, with whatever other units benefit from their Doctrine, like Hellhounds. I have my Leman Russ tanks in a Tallarn Spearhead, with whatever units benefit from their doctrine, like a few Sentinels.

Should work. Take a Tallarn spearhead with a few LR, maybe a bit of artillery or some sentinels... grab a chimera for each of them and let your Armageddon infantry ride in them. Sounds good.

Just a shame the Armageddon vehicle rule is bad enough to make it an attractive option...

Armageddon vehicle rule isn't that bad. If, say, you have chimeras, sentinels and russes, the enemy is likely to throw the high ap weapons at the russes, with the lower ap guns going for the rest. If under attack by things like autocannons, heavy bolters and assault cannons, then an armoured sentinel can last a long time if it ignores the -1 ap.

The problem is that, whilst not bad, other doctrines are just better in most cases. If we look at flamer chimeras, then catachan ups their damage significantly. Bolter chimeras are also much better if they take Tallarn. It is the classic damage>durability problem in 8th edition.

Bear in mind you may want the new specialist detachments if you’re going for troops in chimeras.

You’d need them in the same detachment.

It would cost you an extra cp, but you could make a second detachment into the Blade specialism. The rules rely on the Blade keyword, not being in the same detachment.

This might be a dumb question but can scions ride in Chimeras? They are ASTRA MILITARUM INFANTRY

Sure they can. However, you would lose your Tempestus doctrine if you tried to put them in the same detachment. So you would need a second, normal detachment to avoid this.
