Fajita Fan
It must've been about 2012 I started an Eye of Terror style 13th Company for the 5th edition Phil Kelly codex. That book was a ton of fun to listbuild with between Sagas, the cool sounding spells, Mark of the Wulfen squad upgrade, units like Thunderwolves and Lone Wolves, etc. I've always loved the idea of the army that chased Russ into the Warp and has been battling for 10 millennia scavenging equipment as they teleport from space hulks, lost Imperial ships, demon worlds, etc. When the actual Thunderwolf models dropped I snatched them up and built them sans rider because I thought the riders looked way too much like something out of Warcraft. A little greenstuff fur where the I trimmed the saddle and I thought they looked fine, especially for a 13th Company list now that Wulfen were out of production. My lists had no vehicles and no terminator armor at the time - just 60 footslogging Grey Slayers, 15 Fenrisian wolves, and 9-12 Thunderwolves running across the board with 18 Long Fangs shooting anything they could see. I skipped bikes because if they didn't have vehicles I failed to see how they could support bikes. I had most of the army built and primed but I also started like 4 other armies at the same time, the disastrous Robotech Kickstarter, got heavily into X-Wing, then Destiny on the xbox, etc. The successive SW codices lost all flavor and character becoming just another copy/paste Marine codex and my army languished in a box while I added a few more conversions here and there. I always meant to get this army on the table for 7th edition but I never got around to it because just reading the 7th edition rules gave me a headache. Well I'm busting it back out in addition to painting two Adeptus Titanicus legios as a project I'd like to finish this winter. This is over 3,000 points assembled with more stuff in a couple of boxes. So here's the current command (wolf lord, rune priest, wolf priest) and the Thunderwolves. The one with the storm shields was originally meant to represent a TWC wolf lord with a wolf claw and storm shield. I have like 6 more unassembled. I added a terminator Wolf Priest even though the original EoT book said there weren't any left. He's got some scavenged Chaos armor and a Thunderwolf claw when he tried to heel a particular feral Thunderwolf. The head part of a wolf standard grafted onto a terminator helm and his crozius is a combo hammer/spike. I added some other guys to represent Lone Wolves who will now be standard bearers and a couple of company champions, a few are primed. The Krom model was used to make a frost axe/storm shield wolf lord. So then there's primed 60 Grey Slayers with 4 meltas, 4 plasmas, and 4 flamers along with 15 Fenrisian wolves. Trying to prime gray plastic with Krylon gray primer that's the exact shade of GW plastic was a real treat and I'm sure I missed plenty of spots. There's a little paint on a few guys as I started blocking out which panels would get Chaos painted armor. 20 primed Long Fangs with 6 heavy bolters, 9 missiles, and 2 lascannons so I can mix and match for points. So not pictured are 15 of the new Wulfen models in a box I can't find, some terminator armor I need to finish mashing up with chaos termie bits, and a handful of models I was truescaling their joints to make Mark of the Wulfen models for each squad before the took that out of the codex. I was trying to find a way to shoehorn 3rd edition style Wulfen models before the new ones came out. I've got a few other conversions in a box including a power armor Wolf Priest, some kitted out Wolf Guard, and that guy who came in the Prospero box. Sadly the plastic Mk3 and Mk4 power armor came out long after I finished building all of my guys because I'd have LOVED to use them. So decision time: should I keep the riderless Thunderwolves as is or should I build some models to run along side them on the bases? The Thunderwolf cybernetic claws were going to represent powerfists and I'd glue stormshields on then secure them with chains for WYSIWYG. I'd have to reposition a few of them to accommodate if I add a guy on foot to each one's base. Also should I bother continuing the built up truescale conversions with greenstuff fur coming out of their joints? The old Mark of the Wulfen squad upgrade changed a model's attacks to D6 so I thought that was a good opportunity to model a few guys like the metal Wulfen models but now that the new models are out they seem superfluous. I plan to use the leftover Wulfen bits on my terminator armor guys to show why there's very little terminator armor left in the army. Anyway I hope to keep this updated and hopeful this thread will help me stay motivated!
