Hantheman
So at my club there's been a lot of talks from the top players about Deathwatch being the new best SM faction... why? Veterans with stormshields. 5-10 troop choices that are 3+, 3++ and even 2+ if you take a terminator in each squad. The drop in price in stormshields means you can take a SS and storm bolter at 20 point a model (yeah it's a lot) but that's going to require a lot of fire power to shift on troops. You take three of them with a librarian and a watchmaster and you've got a battalion, access to deathwatch strats and storm bolters wounding on 2s, a librarian who can buff your other astartes units (not just deathwatch) for 450-500 points. Expensive yes, but I'd argue worth it, especially as troops look really important in the new missions and gives some neeeded resilience to that slot. You then can add 1500 points of whatever other army you want! Or add a dreadnaught to deepstrike in and have some fun. I think it's worth trying. If mods feel this should be in the DW forum, please move but I feel it's more of an approach to Astartes soup. Panzer
It's okay, I'll just keep wrecking them with AP0 shooting then. A 3++ is nice but it won't help Marines at all against mass shooting unfortunately. If everyone spams Storm Shields it at least makes Plasma less attractive a choice and in return makes Marines without SS, especially Primaris with their two wounds, more survivable I guess. MARK0SIAN
Yeah, like SfPanzer says, they’ll still die really easily to volume of fire. I think they’d be fun and they’d definitely cause some carnage but I don’t think they’ll have the staying power to really contest objectives against serious opposition. AP 0 shooting on 4 T4 2+ wounds will need about 144 bolter shots to eat through before you affect anything else. 108 shots for anything wounding on 3s. And you need to do that 3 times. Good luck. I was talking about PA Marines. Against TDA Marines AP-1 shooting would obviously still be much stronger. Absolutely everything in 8th dies to weight of fire (and add a +1 to wound and you're golden), bloody titanic units die to them. No matter how cheap those storm shields are, the unit is still not going to be durable. As for titanic units, I think it is beyond absurd that they are not immune to small arms fire. Everything being able to wound everything is one of the worst things about 8th in my opinion.
