Specialist Detachment and Relics

This might seem obvious but hear me out here. Under the Relics of Ultramar section it states:

"If your army includes any Victrix Guard Specialist Detachments, you can give one of the following relics to a

VICTRIX GUARD CHARACTER from your army."

That seems to imply it is separate to the Relics of the army. Indeed it's titled under Relics of Ultramar and not Space Marines Relics (or whatever it is right now) so a different thing.

However, it uses the word Relic and doesn't differentiate between either "type" of Relic.

So the question is, do these Relics count as the Faction Relic or are they in addition to just for the Specialist Detachment?

Its a Relic that can be used only if you have that specialist detachment in your army.  Its not under 'Space Marines Relics' to help show that you need the detachment to unlock its availability.

As its a Relic it still counts towards your 1 free 7 1 or 2 purchased with CP limits.

Yeah my problem is thus; is it a Relic or is it a relic?

The point I'm getting at is whether it is a Space Marines standard Relic with additional caveat or a separate thing? It doesn't say either.

The other aspect to consider is there is a limit on how many Victrix Guard Relics you can take, going by the wording. No matter how many Victrix Guard Detachments, it says you can give ONE of the following Relics to a Victrix Guard character.

Why have this additional caveat if it's just the usual Relic rules?

I would play it safe and say it is intended definitely to be a Relic following the standard rules, of course.

Yes but other armies call them different things, yet they operate the same.

Does this mean I can have the Solder's Blade AND Standard of Maccragge Inviolate if I pay the CP for an additional Relic? As the wording states that I can only take 1.

And if we go by the wording limiting how many Victrix Guard Relics I can take then that means they are a separate entity.

Hmmm. This might need an FAQ.

I personally think if it wasn't a "relic" it would have been called a unique wargear item. I believe it falls under the main rules for a "relic" but those rules are in the codex. I agree that it would have been a no brainer to simply include the same old verbage for relics in that spot. I have no idea why GW continue to add grey areas to stuff like this.

I'm going with - it's a unique "relic" item.. one relic per army unless otherwise stated.

I'm not sure that is something we can take too seriously though. The Warhammer Community site mentioned the Warlord Trait gave a +1 to wound which as we know is completely wrong.

@ Prot: technically it IS a different thing that is stated otherwise. The wording says: "If your army includes any Victrix Guard Specialist Detachments, you can give one of the following relics to a

VICTRIX GUARD CHARACTER from your army."

That is the criteria set out for the Specialist Detachment. The way it is worded, taken as black and white, states we can take said Relic because we took the Detachment.

I'm not trying to get my way, as I don't much care. I just want to get it right for my competitive games.
