So we already have seen several versions of the "uplifting primer"

Who would be interested if the Black Library published things like "the book of lorgar", or "the lictatio divinitatus".

Personally I would think something like that would be really cool... And several hundred years from now archaeologists might accidentally think they were legit religious texts. (As a life long student of science, trolling archaeologists is a "life goals".)

Do you mean this version of the book of Sith?

It sells for around £80, if GW sold something like this it would be sold in gold sovereigns.

Yes I would buy it, but it’s not something I am pinning for. I love the limited edition novels that look and feel in world. I always think novels written in first person, like the Eisenhorn books feel sometimes like a written memoir and so they are pretty much in setting real world books.

It's a fun idea, but I always think the reality of these things is that you can't actually produce a "real" fake document.

The Torah is about 80,000 words long, for instance, and while that's a decent size for a novel it's pretty difficult to imagine someone writing a fictional, in-character religious document that long.

I struggle to imagine someone producing 10,000 words purportedly written by Lorgar that would live up to what the Lectitio Divinitatus is supposed to be like.

true, but assuming such a thing was accomplished...  and it wouldn't be entirely that bad either.  i imagine the book of Lorgar is full of diagrams and other things that eat up pages without requiring as many words per page.  still a monumental effort, and entirely unrealistic.  but it would be cool if they did.

The primer and munitorm books were very much tongue in cheek. Ascanius is right, it would be very very difficult to sit down and make up a book like the lecto div. A satirical release would be more possible but it’s probably not a real world book.
I'd be more inclined to buy histories written as actual history books. Lectitio Divinatus would only be useful as a novelty; a history of a planet or sector that covers a couple millennia would give a lot of useful info to use as background for a homebrew chapter/regiment and give insight somewhat into Imperial workings.

Not just that but it was written over the course of hundreds of years with specific symbols and metaphors lost on a lot of people today. Trying to replicate that for a future book would be insane. Plus, you’d have all the tradition that coincides with the book that the Imperium relies on.

Instead of writing a whole new thing, just dig out Williams' and MvS final manuscripts for Liber Chaotica.

Translate Liber Chaotica into Japanese, then from Japanese to Hungarian then from Hungarian back into English.

Multiple independent translators translating ranomdly sized (sometimes overlapping) fragments, with a couple of bottlenecks, but largely without ability to confer and collaborate with one another.

Add in a whole extra - yet definitive and "any subsequent edits will see curses upon ye all!" - section last thing, but place it in the text near one of the other important middle bits, about how a drug-fuelled fusion of Age of Sigmar and Coronation Street is the origin story, by someone wholly new to *all* of those settings.

Publish the result.

I'd buy it.

Limited Edition!

Forge Worlds Heresy black books did an amazing job of presenting a documented real world history. They have the look and feel of real world books from front to back. They set the bar high for campaign books. Fantastic books.

i really like them, but the only thing that takes me out of the “real world history” schtick is the artwork or “picts” of marines and vehicles

For sure. My set of Liber Chaotica is one of my favorite sets of books. The last 2 of the set are especially good. MvS was ahead of his time.

Liber Chaotica was the perfect melding of brilliant writing, perfect form (including the descent into madness) and quality art/book design. Manages to surpass the original Realms of Chaos books (there I said it). I'd be amazed if BL/GW could capture lightning in a bottle like that again.

I think limiting the scope of such a project would be best. No Codex Astartes or Lectitio Divinitatus BL might publish could ever come close to being as multifaceted or full of potential as the in-universe documents. Something smaller, like the Sabbat Worlds background book that purported to be an in-universe history of the crusade, or like an expanded version of those snippets of reports on astartes chapters prepared for the Paternoval Envoy? Sure.

I’m reading the Vigilus campaign book at the moment. The first 100 pages or so are all great in world fluff. The nice collectors edition gives it a good feel. Though it would be nice if you got some extra material in it for the extra coin. Campaign books are the best medium for in world writing.
I love me a well written in-universe "history" book covering events in the timeline. Never got the Sabbat Crusade book but would have loved that. I like the approach to the FW campaign books and HH black books take too (for background fluff sections). Naturally these are always imperio centric. I think it would be cool (but potentially impossible or too difficult and not cost effective) of background campaign books or codexes were written from the perspective of different races... ie. A report on a war between Humans and Tau with content "written" by both sides showing their take and propaganda on what happened.

Just been looking at the HH Weekender thread and in particular the Necromunda images:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353515-hh-weekender-2019-preview/page-8

As someone who no longer plays any GW game (or any game) but loves the setting I truly truly wishe BL/FW/GW would also publish Lore/Background books that capture all the fluff from relevant rule books together.

I know it won't happen and I have to buy the Necromunda books and accept multiple pages of rules I will never use to get access to a handful or fluff pages BUT nonetheless I really wish they would do a "Necromunda Lore Book" and an "Adeptus Titanicus Lore Book" etc...

Well I can dream!

@dukeleto, couldn’t agree more. As someone who is also mostly interested in the lore these days, I feel a little robbed that a lot of the lore is wrapped up in codexs and rule books. I buy the odd rule book, only for the lore. I’ve bought all the HH black books and a good number of various campaign books, but no where near the amount that I want, purely because I don’t really want or need the rules. Necromunda is a case in point. I’ve bought none of the necromunda stuff since the new release but it really appeals to me. A lore book on the city and its planets inhabitants and cultures would be superb.
