Wolf Guard w. Jump Packs

One Two Wolf

Recommended Posts

Hey all, seasons greetings. I turn again to the wisdom of the pack.

Long fangs are finished and rule of cool demands I leave the termies for now and make some WG with JP. I'm thinking anti horde (yes lots of other options and many better but I model far more than play, sigh, and just want to) so setting up as:

PL with 2x wolf claws

Two more with 2x wolf claws

Two with SS and a wolf claw

That's 14 S5 AP-2 attacks hitting on 2's rerolling wounds, plus any buffs; likely a smash lord with them with the wulfen stone or maybe 'meeting in the middle' with some OTH wulfen for extra attacks. Or both!?

The reroll wounds seems like a big deal and when I do play it's most likely against dirty nurgle so DR is a thing, I need many wounds to get through - fairy rolling the 14 attacks is not likely to wipe ten pox walkers so should I be throwing in storm bolters?

They need to look boss (claws) but also have to be usable when I need them. I'll greenstuff up some medieval shields and want to match their designs to their shoulder pads so they stand out as individuals but they can't whiff off the bat - a squad that sweet needs to win combats, even if they get deleted by shooting next turn (at least the LF's will be shot less).

I'm open to adding two more to the squad. All help, experience and if you want, just growls, appreciated.

Lots and lots of storm bolters. If you deep strike you are at least guaranteed the full round of double shots before taking casualties if you fail the charge.

Claws seem like a good choice for melee. If you decide to take either buff character with them, go with something else I'd say. I don't like dual claws...paying full points for 50% more attacks seems lame. Plus if anti horde is your goal, storm bolters add four shots to the claw's one.

The couple of shields can replace a Bolter or a claw, really. Since the shield will be tanking shots and likely to die before getting to melee, maybe the storm Bolter is better.

I am considering a squad with Storm shields post-CA. 2pts for a 3++ is really good and can potentially tarpit a lot of the big nasty threats that tend to roam around the meta. The ability to tie down something nasty like a Daemon Prince for a couple of turns with a mobile sub-100 point squad until your HammerLord can get over to deal with it seems pretty powerful to me. They can also be used to soak overwatch if you need to charge a scary firepower unit.
