Sparika
Hello everyone, I am looking at envy to the Horus Heresy gaming since some articles on Bell of Lost Souls Deathguard a few yers ago. I started collecting Horus Heresy when Betrayl at Calth released but I did not had the opportunity to play. At least untit last week! We planned a game with my best friend that wanted to test his questoris knights, so I suggested to play Age of Darkness. I would bring my marines and he would bring his big guns. The game was a litteral blast and we had a lot of fun. Finally, it was not that hard to use all these cool toys. I'm now motivated to open some project log to show my progress (mostly for self motivation). For the moment, I have approximately 4000pts of Sons of Horus and 2500pts of Dark Angels. By heart, I am a son of Sanguinius, and pretty excited for next year releases. I'm collecting multiple armies with the idea of playing them one against the other in such friendly game. But then, it becomes difficult to build two different armies that would be not too similar and still able to bring fun and destruction against the other. I've not completely set my mind regarding the loadout and role of some units, and I would appreciate if any of you could bring some advices. The first army is a traitor Sons of Horus. The rite of war "The Long March" sounded cool and so I imagined a footslogging force build around a Spartan and a band of reavers. It is lead by a Preator with Loken miniature (awesome pose). But I'm also considering if I should use Abaddon. I also have Horus, and I'm planning to add 5 Justaerin. + HQ +PraetorCommand Squad (5)+ Elites +Apothecary ApothecaryContemptor Dreadnought, Kheres Pattern Assault Cannon, Close Combat Weapon+ Troops +Tactical Squad (15)Tactical Squad (15)Terminator Squad (10)+ Fast Attack +Reaver Attack Squad (15)+ Heavy Support +Heavy Support Squad, Missile Launcher (4)Leviathan Siege Dreadnought, Claw, Cyclonic Melta LanceSpartan Assault Tank Legion and Allegiance: XVI: Sons of Horus, TraitorRite of War: The Long March The second army is a loyalist Dark Angels. For this army, lacking legion specific rite of war, I considered the experienced 1st legion as fitting for a pride of the legion rite of war. This mostly allows to consider veteran as troop, but I only use one squad, maybe that's a mistake... Then I added what I like, volkite caliver, destroyers, ancient and destructive technologies! Tylos Rubio is also there. I could replace him for Garro. + HQ +PraetorCommand Squad (5) MoritatTylos Rubio + Elites +ApothecaryDestroyer Squad, Missile launchers, Jetpack (10) + Troops +Tactical Squad (15)Tactical Support Squad, Volkite Caliver (10)Terminator Squad (5)Veteran Tactical Squad (10)+ Fast Attack +Seeker Squad (10) + Heavy Support +Land Raider ProteusLand Raider Proteus Sicaran of some sort Legion and Allegiance: I: Dark Angels, LoyalistRite of War: Pride of the Legion --------------------------- In the game we played, the lists were a bit different. I don't have the Heavy Support for the Dark Angels, so the Leviathan Dreagnought was switched to the Dark Angels side. My friend also brought two knights (Crusader and Gallant) for the Dark Angels and a Shadow Sword for the Sons of Horus while I added Horus to his Legion. There was probably too many Lord of War, or not enough cover. While the SoH started with something like 55 marines, they quickly died to the knights firepower and there was not much left for objective control. On the other hand, the Dark Angels felt like they had too much anti infantry firepower and not enough anti-tank. They also lacked mobility, but since I intend to add two land raiders, that should do it. So where I need input, is that my army are mostly set, but I don't know how to equip veteran (SoH and DA) and seeker (DA) squad. I'm also not sure if I should add a Sicaran or Arcus Strike tank to the Dark Angels, both looks cool... Lastly, since Horus did not do much once he managed to teleport with 10 terminators (...), we tested a 1-to-1 fight between him and the knight Crusader. Horus died to a stomp attack without destroying the Knight. Do Eternal Warriors can suffer from the stomp insta death result ? And is there a fellow Luna Wolves player that could give advice on how to use my Primarch? :) I will soon come back with pictures! Ficinus
For the DAngels veterans, a heavy bolter or two with acid shells isn't bad, maybe a combi-grenade launcher with stasis shells on the sergeant, and a couple power swords and power axes all would be good. It might also be nice to upgrade one of those proteus land raiders to a phobos so they can assault out (in which case you could probably leave out the heavy bolters). Also, if you feel a lack of anti-tank, the Arcus might be better? Sparika
Today I finally started to paint Rubio and Garro. I had them for almost a year, but I wasn't sure on how to represent unpainted ceramite. I already have grey knights but I was never satisfied with their metallic paint scheme. So I went for a blueish grey, inspiration found on the web. The paint is a mix of darkreaper and dawnstone. Here is the WIP: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352785-sparikas-heresy/#findComment-5227459 Share on other sites
Sparika
Thank you for your advices, indeed while I'm giving terran swords to a lot of characters, I forgot about the acid shells. It fits well with the idea of Dark Angels using old destructive tech and is also the reason why I put a squad of destroyers. Sparika
With the release of daemons of the ruinstorm approaching, I'm motivated to start an daemons army. I just got Zardu Layak for Christmas, so why not :) The thing is I'm not really found of the differentiated colors for each gods. If the fluff and rules represent the lack of daemonology knowledge from astartes at the moment, it makes no sense to have fast daemon in purple, tough daemons in green, angry daemons in red, and smart daemons in blue. I think that Wrath and Rapture would be a good starting point. But I would like the army to represent this "unaligned" nature of daemons of the ruinstom both by conversion and paint scheme. However, I can't find examples on the Web. Was there any artwork shown at the weekender or other source of inspiration that you may know? Rabidbunneh
One of my friends suggested using Age of Sigmar Nighthaunt models to represent unaligned daemons, I think with some head and weapon swaps, maybe swapping the skulls for empty hoods would look cool.
