Basing question

Recommended Posts

Never glue something directly to a painted surface or the bond will only ever be as strong as the paint to the surface. Agrellian Earth, in particular, will flake away somewhat easily and the models will likely pop right off with just a bit of pressure. It takes some time and effort but I'd pin them to make absolutely sure they'd stay put.

Ok will do, thank you. Now to figure out how to pin. I get the concept, but how to line up with base. Thanks for the help

Drill into the feet of the model, insert pin. Put paint onto the tip of the pins, poke onto base, see where the paint is and drill there. This is called "spotting the dot" and makes pinning a breeze.

Another alternative is to trace around the feet of the model (without glueing it to the base) and then leaving the foot print clear when you put on the Agrellian Earth.

Kind of like this:

So I just held the bike on the base in the position that I wanted it to be and then used my other hand to paint around where the bike's tire would attach to the base.

When it came to adding the texture I just made sure not to get any PVA glue where the bike would attach.

And voila! I used this method on all of my Alpha Legion and Sons of Horus, and I think the same method could work pretty well with Agrellian Earth.

Hope this helps :)

I use wall patch to give the bases some natural unevenness, and press the feet of the model into the plaster while its still soft. This is a good way to give power armor weight as well, but if you cant press clear to the hard part of the base its best to pin them in as well, since the patch beneath the foot can flake off (because of the super glue) if the model falls over.
