Unit Entries and Help- Need a refresher on SW units

Hey folks,

I am about to embark on a campaign at the local store and after month am dusting off my space wolf army. I also purchased the new CA.

So I have been doing my due diligence and looking at lists here and on other sites, but I am really confused about a few units that seem to be absent from peoples lists-

Swiftclaws- 23 pts now with the gun. Yes, 4+ BS but lots of shots on the move. Also have chainswords and plenty of ways to get them extra attacks with wulfen and Lord. T5. Also you can include an attack bike with 4 wounds for just 35 pts. Put a wolf priest on bike near them and it seems like they would be good in both close combat and shooting and fairly resilient- that WP could heal the attack bike each turn.

Axe and Shield Dread- aren't they still tough as nails with their 4+ invul and 6+ ignore wounds?

Cyber Wolves- 15 points for a unit entry. We suffer on Command Points, you could take 3 of these guys and a Thunderwolf Lord and get a quick CP. Not to mention put them in the way.

Thunderwolves. I understand some people are conflicted about the point change on Storm Shields, I can't see that, it seems clear to me. 2 pts for Storm Shields, 10 for characters. So, all that aside I am calling the storm shield 2 pts for thunderwolves. With the pt reduction, isnt that good enough to get these guys back on the playing field?

Seems like folks could take the detachment of heros and just take thunderwolf lords and support them by a few units and they would be tough enough to survive shooting for a turn- isnt that true?

Granted, I know that there are some really tough shooting armies out there that can just mince anything you put on the board and SW arent top tier for sure, but still I am befuddled by absence of some of our units. Can anyone help on this?

Wolf guard on bikes (legal in the index) are far superior to swift claws but bikes in general are not being used as much because fear they will get formally cut.

The other units you mention are good but as an elite army things have to be cut

Dreads with 4++ are nice but wulfen with 3++ are better and hit just as hard in melee.

I actually used to run cyber wolves just as you describe because they are also great as anti deep strike bubbles...however when the meta and lists shifted i stopped adding them

find your own style and dont worry too much about what others are doing

Good advice. Also, talking about the point cost for SS. The codex has 3 entry's about point cost

1. Characters

2. for TWC

3. For other units

Two of these entry's are changed in the CA

1. Charcaters

3. The other units

Entry for TWC is not changed so they are still 10 points per model. Sorry, but that's how it is.

Also, name 1 thing TWC can do that other units can't do for less points. They are awesome models, but right now just not worth there points.

Dreads are still solid, but need support. The downgrade to 4++ means you shouldn’t just throw them at the line as a distraction carnifex. The plus side is with the scyth attack they don’t get bogged down as bad in infantry. I still prefer the venerable version over the wulfen but that’s to taste.

As far as the bikes, for the role a lot of people are using scout bikes but they are a bit over priced compared to our vanilla cousins.

Cybers still round out a brigade nicely, and you’re right about the outrider detachment.

It mostly taste and meta really.

So if you guys had to design a 1k List, what would it be? I am playing a doubles with an IG player against another SW list. So I kind of started with the typical

Bjorn

Character to be named

5 GH w/plasma

Razorback- TLL

5 GH w/plasma

Razorback- TLL

5 GH

Razorback TLAC

So I have roughly 215 pts for a second character and IDK- some Long Fangs? Or I could add in a unit of plasma scouts.

Not sure I like that build though. I have so many cool models, thunderwolves, swiftclaws, wulfen (2x5 old school metals with new bit upgrades), I even have a Land Speeder storm I had built and painted when they first came out hoping I would get to use one at some point, so it has wolf scouts peeling out of it. Again, hard to make choices when I havent played in such a long time.

On top of that, this is a campaign game where my units can gain experience. I can change my list from week to week but if I play with models I wont play with in my 2k list, I essentially lose that experience- so I would rather have this 1k represent an element of my 2k list.

Anythoughts? Play tomorrow at 2.

Let the Guards be a hammer with high str low AP weapons, and be an anvil for him. High loses but worth of sagas. I've paired with IG once, and I was screening his tanks, make a pressure with GH and wulfen units, and capture objectives. You want to move your Razorbacks, so it will be better to give them more shoots (ass cannons), because you will be hitting on 4+ (on the move). Let the Guard take opponent tanks and wulfen, and be the king of the midfield.

I cant fit in razorbacks GH and Wulfen. A min sized squad of wulfen is going to cost what 200 pts and I am going to want to support them with some other equally scary units or they will just be focused fired off the board.

Honestly I think your list is a solid start. For the character I would suggest a walking iron priest. They are cheap and can keep Bjorn and the RBs in the fight. Then o think 150 for swift claws or tcav seems worth it. If you need a couple points you could always drop a TLL to a heavy bolter
