Thinking of coming back

Been out of 40k awhile now. I've even sold off my old raven guard army. Ah well, out with the old in in with the new.

Thinking of doing up a primarily primaris army.

Here's a list i'm thinking of:

1750

Battalion:

Shrike

Lt - JP, Thunderhammer, Storm Bolter

Redemptor Dread - Macroplasma, Onslaught Cannon, 2x Fragstorm launchers

Redemptor Dread - Macroplasma, Onslaught Cannon, 2x Fragstorm launchers

Intercessors - 10 man - rifles, aux gl, PFist

Intercessors - 10 man - rifles, aux gl, PFist

Scouts - 5 man - 4x Sniper rifles, ML

Inceptor Squad - 3 man - Plasmas

Repulsor - TLLascannon, Onslaught Cannon, 2x Storm bolters, ironhail heavy stubber, icarus ironhail stubbers

Repulsor - TLLascannon, Onslaught Cannon, 2x Storm bolters, ironhail heavy stubber, icarus ironhail stubbers

Total: 1747

The idea is to have the intercessors in the repulsors. They'll advance with the redemptors close behind. Shrike & Lt will be in the middle to provide buffs & counterassault. The nice thing about redemptors is that they get the -1 to hit. The inceptors will be in reserve. The scouts will infiltrate on an objective and take potshots.

What do you guys think?

Hi!

Looking good!

Maybe scouts woth bolters/shotguns and HB with camo cloaks will serve better for forward infiltration.

Also consider to upgrade this detachment to be Indomitus crusaders and intercessors to be veterans.

Oh? How do you do that?

Check Vigilus campaign book for rules. In a brief you can spend 1  CP to make detachment Indomitus crusaders, the you can spend 1 CP per unit of intercessors to upgrade it to be Veterans (+1A +1Ld). Also then they can use special stratagems (one can make boltrifles "rapid fire 2").

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Duz, by all means.

Race, i've been around, it'll be a slow grow thing for me coming back.

Dos, that's a great idea.

A couple of things:

I wanted to keep the inceptors for the jump packs, give that RG feel to it.

Should i swap shrike for a generic captain with thunderhammer and shield eternal?

Can't help but feel that Primaris are clodhoppers next to "ordinary" marines, can't believe they possess the same qualities of stealth that make Raven Guard special.

I get what you’re saying there but then the same could be said of 8ft quarter ton of OldMarines stomping about in bulky power armor. The older Mark armor remind me of that cobbled together armor Ironman made in the cave in he first movie

Ya just gotta disbelieve ;)

I was thinking of a generic captain because i wanted to take the storm of fire warlord trait. Tasty AP with bonus for all my guns :biggrin.:

In that case, keep Shrike and make the LT your warlord and give him Storm of Fire. Honestly the Raven Guard warlord trait is really only useful on a T-Hammer/Storm Shield Captain anyway.

I don't really want the Lt to be warlord. Kinda messes with my head cannon. That's why i was thinking of a captain to replace shrike.

Another idea i had would be to replace the Lt's weapons with dual plasma pistols. Maybe not the most efficient but it does fit with the storm of fire trait.

I totally get the head canon thing, so you do you.\

If you do go the dual plasma-pistol LT, I highly recommend this bad boy as the model: https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Legion-Moritat-with-Plasma-Pistols

While bitchin' .... I'm holding out for a Lieutenant slinging these bad boys around. https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Space-Marines-Primaris-Inceptors-2017

Keeping in mind, generally speaking (pun intended :)) I'm all about boots on the ground, given your initial list you almost have to double up on the vehicles and dreadnoughts. Vehicles and dreads die very quickly in the current meta - designed to take Knights out per Turn.

If you're a treadhead my suggestion is to go all in. Well almost all in. I'd go with 4 squads of Scouts, two as backfield keepers with sniper rifles the other two cheap forward operators and two squads of Intercessors for the Repulsors. I haven't given it a deep look but I'm starting to look into for when (not if?) Primaris get a cheaper transport
