Starting War Hounds?

If I wanted make Loyalist WE/WH, how should I start? The fluff around the War Hounds really interests me, as does that of the loyalist WE at Istvaan. What would I need if I wanted to make a 500 or 750 point army, most likely for ZM? The 500pts list for them I thought up was a Champion, Apothecary, Contemptor Cortus, and a Tactical Squad with bolters and chainaxes. To go to 750, I'd probably add Breachers, and for 1k, Terminators. Is that a good starting point? If not, what would be fluffy for a ZM force of War Hounds?

I've just started my War Hounds/Loyalist WE force. Fluff being that they are the ones who seperated early from the massing at Bodt and have never undergone the surgery.

I've gone for an 'Angry Ultramarines with Chainaxes' approach. They are still mad, but more of a combined arms approach with some actual shooting.

The transfers do have 30 or so Hound transfers on them, so you could buy that and then sell the W-E transfers on for alot cheaper than the Shapeways pads.

Mogsam's got the right of it for me (Says someone who just bought $100 worth of Luna Wolf Shapeways symbols), the WE transfers do have some of the Hounds transfers for pauldrons and vehicles, plus they got the fun chains and such too. That, some microsol, microset, and paper towel is pretty good for FW transfers which go on real good.

I saw your other list for 1K ZM up there, mate, aye it's good.  This one works, too (But Levvies are a menace in ZM, no doubt about it).  Depending on how self limiting you want to be at 750, you could always 'downgrade' the Praetor to a Centurion and save yourself enough points for a neat recon group with shotguns for some more variety (and they look cool).

How is he bad? An equivalent Praetor costs 5 less points, but Haar comes with T5, rerolls to wound for the whole squad vs traitors and grants Scout to up to three infantry units. He also ignores Bloodlust, for good or bad. Not a bad deal at all.

Haar is actually a pretty good character, his T5 means in combat he does not suffer instant death unless his opponent is strength 10 (so essentially a slightly weaker version of eternal warrior). He has a master crafted power fist, so he will cause instant death to the majority of opposing characters.

Take a look at this mathhammer thread:

Haar is easily in the top five, I would take him over Khârn every time. The scouting of infantry units is the icing on the cake.

Cadmus

Not sure if he fits your fluff or how you want to run your force, but don't forget about Endryd Haar- the named character for all you loyalist War Hounds/World Eaters out there.

Yupp, and it is great fun to build an Eddy
