Halfpint100
Title says it all. I was wondering which regiment would win. Same standard TAC list with a mix of most things, just using the regiment bonuses and orders. Mordians might do well due to the order allowing character sniping. Or cadian/ catachan for their re-rolls to hit or vehicle shots re-rolls being powerful. What do people think? Feral_80
Impossible to establish. Terrain impacts performance hugely, and there is no such thing as a 'same standard(?!) TAC list' for AM since each regiment obviously pushes players to maximize its specific strengths during list design. While some regiments (Catachan, Cadian) seem definitely stronger than others (Mordian, Steel legion), the question is impossible to answer. MrZakalwe
My Cadians have so far rolled Catachans and Armageddon a couple of times (Overlapping fields of fire and Natural Born Soldiers really shone although the 18" rapid fire gave me some bother on the infantry front) though I imagine Vostroyans would give them a run for their money. The 30" lasgun/Plasma range would immediately put you on the back foot. duz_
Clearly Mordians*! End of discussion ... I should close the thread now ;) *Assuming that the Officio Prefectus is excluded from this comparison ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353078-regiment-vs-regiment-who-would-win/#findComment-5233519 Share on other sites
Ranulf
Clearly Valhallans*! Our tanks will not degrade, our Guardsmen will not rout, send in the next wave! *There appears to be a pattern forming. -Ran Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353078-regiment-vs-regiment-who-would-win/#findComment-5233648 Share on other sites
Doof
I think in a guard vs guard game, with identical brigades Vostroyans would have the upperhand due to their range. Now if were talking about changing lists to maximize each regiments buff i think the answer is a lot more nebulous. HallofStovokor
Vostroyan is the weakest regiment. Their greatest benefit is the range, but they have crap for accuracy. Cadians have Overlapping fields (+1 to hit) and their native reroll 1s (reroll everything with take aim) is significantly more powerful. The best weapons against vehicles are long enough rang that 6" doesn't really matter. Catachan are better at close combat. Valhallan vehicles don't degrade and they can make conscripts fearless. Mordians are maybe the only regiment that Vostroyans could regularly beat, but Mordian lore is much better. librisrouge
I’d like to remind you guys that Tempestus Scions are both a thing and clearly the best thing. Given equal numbers and comparable vehicle support... :) ...I’m confident we’d come out on top. *This message brought to you by the 325th Alphic Hydras. When the going gets tough and the enemy has you surrounded, just remember our motto. “We’re totally not the Alpha Legion.”* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353078-regiment-vs-regiment-who-would-win/#findComment-5236521 Share on other sites

Wassa
To be fair, he said equal numbers. That's a huge advantage given Scions are over double the points of a guardsmen. If they're kept in squads of 5 thats an insane number of squads to be fighting and splitting firepower between. In a normal game I'd say Cadians if they didn't have to move. Take Aim is really strong for Cadians, especially when loaded up with Special and Heavy weapons or in SWT/HWTs. Fighting another guard army this would probably be mortar spam. Order shenanigans means you can get squads with multiple orders which turns an ordinary squad into something deadly. Halfpint100
I said same standard TAC list. The lists would have to be the same points. Seems like most people are leaning towards cadians apart from those who are obviously bias.... looking at you Duz and Ranulf Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353078-regiment-vs-regiment-who-would-win/#findComment-5236633 Share on other sites
