Rik Lightstar
I know James who heads up Siege Studios and frankly his paint work and what he expects of his team is incredible. They don't have "standardised pricing" as such, but they certainly won't be the cheapest. They market themselves on quality, not on pricing. They'll want lots of details about your requirements, ideally with pictures of your required colour scheme. If you're UK based I can thoroughly recommend their weekend painting courses as a great value way of getting the most out of them. What you learn on that course should equip you to be putting out a full army by taking a week or two off work, which is probably cheaper than the cost of any commission services. Rik I’ve been thinking of doing one of their weekend courses for a while now so may book one that’s not to far soon. It is without doubt the best value I've received from money spent in this hobby. They offer ongoing support as well via a Facebook private group. Rik Lightstar
Rik, I dont doubt their service, and i am willing to shell out a higher price for a higher product. and youre right, they did ask for alot of detail, ha. felt like i was building an army list in my email reply to them ha, but its a non issue at the moment. i cant wait to hear back from them tomorrow. hopefully they can provide a test model as well. i did see their course advertised, unfortunately, im not in the uk. but i would love to attend a painting course to improve my own skill one day. maybe youll know, i saw some of their gallery pictures feature the warhammer community watermark. are they the new painters for gw? I think like Mengel they sometimes get bits early so the community team can show some different takes on models. jbaeza94
Alright gents, So ive decided im going to go with DOI. This does not mean the other services are bad, but they fit my needs a bit more. AR do great on their big bugs, especially at higher lvl. I understand that standard is their lowest lvl, and its priced fairly for what it is. Warpstorm Painting, i have followed them on IG for a long time now, and love their marines. Probably some of my favorites. While i think they would do my army justice, i just want a bit mote security since they have not done a tyranid army. Seige Studios is awesome! Unfortunately, theyre way out of my price point. Their big bugs are priced competitively compared to the other companies, but its the pricing of the 160 gribblies that adds up really really fast. Great source for more elite armies i believe. DOI while not the cheapest of the group, i feel like they understand my vision. Theyre actually working on a DA counts as Azrael for my successor chapter for me, Christmas present from my elder brother. So i may have somr bias as well. Either way guys, thanks for the advice and comments. I do feel like im making a more informed and confident decision as opposed to a few days ago. If yall want, ill post some pictures of the WIP here as well. Guest
I had DoI do a kill team done (because I was lazy and the holidays took most of my time), and I am happy with the results. Here is what I was sent: https://den-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/gallery_image/image/5bfd088db6041e00046d5ddd/big_kopia__SAM4480.JPG.jpg This is the model, picture taken by my phone: http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_15164/gallery_94113_15164_956757.jpeg I would say they are pretty similiar. Hopefully this helps anyone else. Edit: this is level 3 paint job. Rik Lightstar
It's solid work, I'd personally have liked them to be a bit "tighter" with the highlights, but that's probably me being picky. Axineton
Nearest one to me has sold out next month. In Bromley which is about 70 miles each way. Just as well as I'm off to Warhammer world the weekend before. Next one in Bromley is in June. I'll book that next month I reckon. Rik Lightstar
It changed how I approach army painting completely. Over a decade ago I worked in a GW Store and got pretty quick at painting units and armies or so I thought. To be fair there's a definite "minimum standard" you have to be hitting to get the most from the course. But I reckon if I had two weeks off and picked up the models on day 1, I could have a 2000 point Marine army painted to the equivalent of Den of Imaginations level 4, with characters at level 5 in that time. Previously, for that standard I'd have probably expected nearer to double that if we're honest. White Wolf
I went on a Siege Studios course at Bristol Independent Gaming and can thoroughly recommend it, l got a great deal out of it even though I’m not the greatest painter. James is very professional in his approach and the course covered everything from the basics to very advanced techniques. Money well spent by my wife (the course was a birthday present) ATB WW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353089-painting-commission-companies-help/page/2/#findComment-5237520 Share on other sites
jbaeza94
Gents, i just want to say thanks for everyone who gave input. below is the final product, swarmlord was lvl 4, tervigon, mawloc, broodlord, and flyrant were lvl 3, and the rest was lvl 2. i can honestly say im very satisfied with the product. DOI were very professional, asked tons of questions, kept me updated often. i think our total email thread went into the 60 messages. i feel they captured my vision well as well. the two tone skin on the bigger monsters is a detail i could never came up with myself and i love it, its very organic. once again, thanks for the input guys https://www.denofimagination.com/gallery/5cd9266276b68c0004a06f98/5cd9266476b68c0004a06f99 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353089-painting-commission-companies-help/page/2/#findComment-5336144 Share on other sites
