Ultras didn't need to be there. IH should have got the spotlight with a Primaris Kardan Stronos.

But hey! Ultras have to be 1st everywhere/ everything.

BT didn't need to even have a formation in the book. They don't even feature. IH should have had one.

Let's be honest, Ultras needed to be there because that's the narrative GW is focussing on currently. Everything we're getting currently is still about Guilliman to some degree. He's the main character for now until GW decides he had enough time in the spotlight and releases the next loyalist Primarch. ^^

I’ve given up trying to work out GWs obsession with putting the ultramarines front and centre so much all these years even though they aren’t exactly the most popular marines. But your right they are what’s it all about right now.

Anyone any thoughts what’s at the centre of the big whirlwind? Perhaps it Leman Russ chasing a cat?

If I hadn't had a great day so far, this would've made it! :D

No, no clue. It could be anything, really. Literally any Primarch (yes, even the dead ones if GW wants to) or anything else. I'll predict this much, it's probably not T'au related at least. :teehee:

Damn. Switching Primarneus for Primaristronos would have been utterly lovely.

I might have died with joy, were that the case! Brings to mind an interesting question though: are highly cyborgized marines still able/eligible to undergo the transformation? I think Stronos is mostly machine by now.

As long as the body parts where the new organs are supposed to go are intact I'd say there probably won't be a problem aside of the usual dieing thing. Maybe higher failure rate. The question is whether this miracle upgrade regrows limbs and such. Imagine an Iron Hand Marine suddenly have all this weak flesh again. :D

That being said, I feel like the die-hard IH Marines won't do that upgrade. Why replace weak flesh with other weak flesh if they could just as well replace it with bionics. Let the new guys become Primaris, they will learn soon enough that flesh is still just flesh. ;)

This makes sense. I think, lore-wise at least, most heavily augmented Iron Hands veterans would be at least a match for Primaris in durability and strength.

Marneus Calgar himself was mostly machine, wasn't he?

I thought that was retconned?

Hmm, perhaps but I hadn't noticed it. (Rather, I assumed it was like Space Marine Backpack Reactors: forgotten about and so routinely overlooked as to be basically irrelevant, except on the odd occasion an author recalls it.)

Yeah but do they get all the attention because they are popular or are they popular because they get all the attention? Considering they aren't that much more special than most other first founding chapters I'd wager it's the latter. ;)

Perhaps your right, maybe they are really popular and im wrong (it has happened before!), I just rarely see them on gaming tables. But I suppose they do turn up in BL fiction rather often so they must sell well.

they sell well because they are pushed well, we see them in all the narratives for this:

blue paints are generally the most uniform consistency and the easiest to get complete coverage, it's a particularly forgiving colour to start the padawans on

Im going to agree with you.

The Narrative I think GW is going for is this.

Robbie has halted the stagnation of the imperium, but not the collapse.

He can fend off one of his brothers with help, and regain ground.

two of his brothers, he can barely hold ground, with mounting loses. Robby can rarely step away from logistics but can when it is required

Three of his fallen brothers, Robby is losing ground, and is stuck doing logistics. he cannot step away from logistics, because the amount of loses it would mean, entire swatchs of the imperium lost. and with robby unable to fight and fend off his brothers it sets a desperate mood for the returned son.

Three of his fallen brothers have returned and are wrecking havok on three fronts. Robby is streched thin and is desperate to prevent the immenint collapse of the imperium, even with him, and his primaris, and ultras the imperium is losing ground, losing millions of assets a day.

Vigilus is LOST. Abaddon beats back even the revamped Marnues calgar.

Fulgrim, Mortarian and Magnus are all plaguing the IMperium on the terran side of the galaxy.

This is the layup GW is planning, to Have 1 of 2 loyal sons returning in the most dire of times.

It will either be DORN or RUSS.

Dorn taking charge of the black templars and crusading against them alleviating the mounting pressure on robby.

( HOWEVER I think dorn will be the 3rd loyal primarch to return and he will call all the templar fleets into one grand crusade, and crusade through vigilus and retake it for the imperium and re-establish contact with imperium nihilus, after russ returns)

or

Russ appearing and taking the charge to the fallen primarchs, alleviating the pressure on robby.

THis then adds an additional layup.

IMperium Nihilus having been cut off, all hope is lost for half of the Imperium.

30-40 years later they manage to hear back from one of the explorator ships that made its way to Nihilus and back with astounding news.

The LION has returned, and is using the ROCK as a MASSIVE FOB for the imperium Nihilus, Every imperial force is aboard the rock, and where it arrives brings liberation for the imperial citizens.

THe LIon and Dante, Mephiston and others have been fighting a losing battle, but stopping the utter collapse of the imperium Nihilus.

it is revealed they have been engaging Abaddon and other fallen primarchs, pertarabo, Lorgar, The Hydra.
