Pippolele
I am doing some background research for my successor chapter based on the sword Sanguinius used to battle Horus. (The broken one that he uses to make a dent in the warmaster's armour) The Archangel's Shard description reads: When Sanguinius battled Horus, he wielded a magnificent blade that was tragically shattered against the Warmaster's profane battle-plate. The shards of that blade were gathered up and new Power Swords forged to incorporate them, each one gifted to a different Blood Angels Successor Chapter. it doesn't however mention the name of the blade itself.Lexicanum claims it to be the blade encarmine but this contraddicts the fact that the blade encarmine is an existing relic of the blood angels. Does anyone have more info about it? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353145-the-archangels-shard-fluff/ Share on other sites
The Angel
It is in fact called the blade encarmine. This is referenced in chapter one, pg 26 of Ruinstorm. He specifically draws a sword with that name. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353145-the-archangels-shard-fluff/#findComment-5235250 Share on other sites
Xenith
Read "Black Legion" by ADB if you want to know what happened to the remains of Sanguinius' sword... Pippolele
Thank you both for your precious insights!Would you know how to explain the archangel shard swords (made out of the splinters of the blade encarmine) and the Blade Encarmine itself still existing as one? Xenith
Thank you both for your precious insights! Would you know how to explain the archangel shard swords (made out of the splinters of the blade encarmine) and the Blade Encarmine itself still existing as one? It can in the same way that multiple relics exist, all called "The Archangels' Shard". (A) "Blade Encarmine" was lost by Leonatos of the 4th company at some point in the last 1000 years, for which he went on a penitent quest to recover it. Maybe this was made by a particularly prideful smith of the Blood Angels who likened his work to that of Sanguinius's sword? Maybe Sanguinius just called all the Swords he owned that, and "The Blade Encarmine" was just the title of whatever he was holding that day? Maybe the broken one was one of a set? Maybe the Blade Encarmine that Leonatos lost in the warp actually travelled back in time 10,000 years and wound up in Sanguinius's armoury... Leonaides
Cant take any credit for that explanation - its all pratchett. I would have loved to see him write something using 40k background. Corporal Nobbs and sgt colon would fit in the guard perfectly Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353145-the-archangels-shard-fluff/#findComment-5235612 Share on other sites

In the opening of Fear to Tread, on Melchior, the blade that Horus used was called the twin of Sanguinius's blade. having multiples is probably the most likely answer. Arkangilos
The Blade Encarmine that is from Blood Quest wasn’t the same sword he used regularly. It was a sword he granted to one of the first chapter masters as a gift. At that time Rolderon hadn’t been invented yet, and it was Belisarius or something like that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353145-the-archangels-shard-fluff/#findComment-5235742 Share on other sites
