Basic concept for both is to have the Tactical blobs gum up the middle of the board and slowly advance.

Rhino-Tacs are OBJ grabbers + QRF.

Iron Havocs sit back in bunker and blow :cuss up.

Pert can DS w/ either Termies or Siege Tyrants.

That is what both lists have in common. Where they diverge is with:

-Contemptors. In A there's a single one as a counter-assault/distraction carnifex unit. In B there's 2 providing weight of mid-strength fire (ah, 7th ed...)

-HQ: I have a Cataphractii model that's pretty cool that I think can work for either Warsmith or Siege Breaker. Warsmith is a bit more of a beat-stick with the Praetor+ profile and digital lasers/MC hammer (hehe). The Siege Breaker, however, costs less AND adds Tank Hunters to whatever he is attached to. Thus, both the Termies and the Siege Tyrants can get Tank Hunters with either Pert or the HQ attached to them

-AA: list A has the Quad gun for at least some kind of AA. B relies on Iron Havocs re-rolling 1's and the two Contemptors with weight of autocannon

Questions:

-Are Vexillas overkill? Considering IV Legion dudes don't take Morale from ranged casualties AND Pert will give them all Stubborn on top of that

-Fat to trim: Tacticals have a bunch of upgrades, from Vexilla to Nuncio to Melta bombs to Artificer to Combat blades. I like the idea of the CCW since with Hail of Fire from RoW, you would still get 2A each even if Disordered Charging...which also stacks with Pert's Furious Charge army-buff. Melta bombs seems like a hidden deterrent especially when combined with army-wide Wrecker. The Nuncios are there in List B to help guide in the Termies while the Vexilla refers back up to question 1 above

-Are autocannons worth it? I like the idea of two Dreads off to each side dumping out mid-strength shots, especially since I could use them as Butcher Cannons in 8th :) ...but will they hold their own?

-Am I asking to get slapped with such little AA? I know that highly depends on opponent's army, but is it suicide to rely on a single Quad gun or just weight of fire? Alternatively I could scrap something to get a 3rd Iron Havoc squad in w/ 4 ML or so, but that involves $$$ which I don't want to spend if I don't have to

As I've stated I think in other parts of the forum, this army is meant to be 80% optimized, especially since a lot of the models (like Chainfist Cataphractii) are built a certain way already and there's no going back. Secondly, I am looking to double-dip in 8th ed 40k where I can, so I'm not losing sleep over some things. I've been working on this since October, so no going back on RoW or such.

Comments and Critiques welcome.

IW don't need Vexilae.

As a matzer of fact I strongly recommand trieng to avoid close combat because TT are not very good at it.

I think you don't use the biggest (and in my opinion only real) asset of The HoO in your list: having four Heavy Slots.

Instead of fielding more or less useless footslogging terminators* you should add another unit into that slot. Options are plenty.

Vindicators, Executioner Predators, Scorpion, Leviathan etc. are all great additions to any army.

*Footslogging Terminators won't do anything in a normal game. If you want to Deep Strike them, which you can because of Peter Turbo, they still seem very tame.

Why only two Combi-Meltas? What could they achieve with that? Give every dude in that unit one. That'll help them actual doing something.

And don't waste your points on expansive CCW for them. Three out of four times they'll get shot after they arrive anyway so, why bother giving them expansive stuff whixh they probably won't use.

Next thing is that you should always gibe the Sergeant of an Iron Havoc squad an Artificer Armour to protect the other members of that squad.

I don't like the equipment of your Tactical Squads either. As I meantioned earlier they don't need Vexilae but what they DO need is some kind of Combi-Weapon on your Sergeants, because IF you play huge blobs of marines they should be able to actually do something. Don't waste your points on Power Weapons though because they won't survive challanges anyway. Infigured a Heavy Chainsword is a neat option for them. It is kinda cheap and still give them some oomph.

Pretty much the above. No point in taking Hammer with 3 HS selections, either take out the Terminators and get Heavy with the points or just take out the third Tactical Squad and get something else. An Artillery squadron or a Sicaran would be fine.

Why two squads of five Havocs? Sure you get to fire at different targets but the cost is massive for 10 PA guys. Making them a single squad saves you points to buy something else into the list.

Thank you all for your feedback.

++++++++++++++

Attempted to take to heart the advise ya'll have provided, working within the constraints of what I have:

-Cataphractii are built with chainfists, and I am not going to change that any time soon

-Used the points I could to have 3 nice big blocks of Tactical (Stubborn, not-taking-Morale-from-shootin', Hail of Firin', Furious Chargin' in enemy DZ'n) marines pseudo-fearleslly marching up the field

-....I gave each Tactical Sgt combi-melta + power fist to add some "bite" per the suggestion above....but that also means I don't have enough bits to give more than 3x Terminators combi-meltas

-Scrapped the Quad gun on the Bunker, so I am quite vulnerable to air attacks, but I'm hopeful the ammo store/dump on the Bunker and massed missiles from the Tyrants will make up some of that ground.

-Contemptor I currently have is built as above. I was considering re-working it to do dual TL-autocannons, but A. the FW upgrades apparently don't line up with the Calth kit as cleanly as one would think B. FW is out of alot of Contemptor weapons
