Knockagh
Mine arrived today, tiny tiny book. Made to look even smaller as it landed in the same box as Anarch which is rather large. Limited edition is really beautiful. The cover feels like it’s mater but I don’t think it is. Definitely not one I will be reading with dirty hands at lunchtime in the farm! mr.crusader
How many pages, exactly? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353292-celestine/#findComment-5239484 Share on other sites
Knockagh
174, it’s probably about the same as a primarch book. Maybe not as small as I thought on opening the box. Anarch just looked massive beside it. It’s very thin but that’s because it’s much taller than a primarch book. Anyway quality over quantity and all that, will see how it reads, excited about this one. mr.crusader
Thanks! I thought it barely has a hundred pages) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353292-celestine/#findComment-5239528 Share on other sites
sitnam
Can't wait to get feedback on the story. I'm a big Andy Clark fan and this is my first limited edition book, can't wait to see it myself Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353292-celestine/#findComment-5239610 Share on other sites
Aqui
Got mine today. It's been a good read so far. I don't recall having read any of his work before though. Commander Dawnstar
Got mine today too (1047/1250) and I've already read through it end-to-end once. I'd certainly mean to do so again before saying much about it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353292-celestine/#findComment-5240257 Share on other sites
sitnam
Clark featured Celestine as a significant story element in Shroud of Night, which is partially why I looked forward to this novel Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353292-celestine/#findComment-5240319 Share on other sites
Commander Dawnstar
I'm fairly sure it's implied that Celestine picks up directly after Shroud of Night but that's as far as any direct connection between the two appears to go. Angel_of_Blood
Failed to secure a copy. Which is especially disheartening seeing just how many copies weee bought purely to scalp :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353292-celestine/#findComment-5242255 Share on other sites
Knockagh
Filthy scalpers indeed. I’m staggered at how much they put these books on eBay for. Does anyone buy them at that? Surely not. Do BL not put a one book limit per order? Although the way some of the limited eds sell it hasn’t made much sense to buy multiples Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353292-celestine/#findComment-5242344 Share on other sites
Knockagh
Finally got around to reading this. Disappointing. The rebirthing loop story was poor and rather boring. I thought so much more could have been made of it. The battle story was great, particularly the climax. A nice unexpected twist at the end. Overall though I felt very let down by her story in the ‘beyond’. Poor show Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353292-celestine/#findComment-5260704 Share on other sites

I quite enjoyed the book overall though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353292-celestine/#findComment-5260899 Share on other sites
Knockagh
I found it odd in that I usually dislike the battle sections and love the rest. The beyond bit was the reason I was looking forward to this book. I found it really cliche and dull. It was a book with tremendous potential to deal with the afterlife preached by the imperial church. It also skirted around Celestines background only referencing a tiny bit. I’ve a feeling the rest will come from the solar war books. The novel held a lot of potential and failed to deliver much more than a semi decent scrap. sitnam
I don't find it too odd you liked the battles: Andy Clark is honestly top notch at depicting battle. His plots are never Earth shattering but he is the best at making conflicts feel as big as they should be. Servant of Dante
Does the story mention any dates? I'm curious since I don't know of any sources that mention any for the Palatine Crusade when Celestine became a Living Saint (I don't mind spoilers, if someone doesn't mind answering the question in a Spoiler tag or something). Commander Dawnstar
Nope. That part of her history is only mentioned once in passing and we learn nothing new of it specifically.
