Evil Eye
I received some Alclad paint for Christmas, including Holomatic Spectral Chrome, which gives a very pretty rainbow/hologram/CD-like effect (though I haven't used it yet as the weather is not overly friendly for airbrushing at the moment). Anyway, as with most of these special effect metallics it needs a gloss black base to truly work, much like the GSW chameleon paints. However, I had a thought; given that it's very translucent/thin, would using a gloss base of another colour instead of black give a different finish with a similar effect? For example, if I were to use the stuff over gloss white, would it give a finish more like pearl/opal than the CD surface/"rainbow chrome" you get with gloss black? Looking in the bottle you can see the effect even in the liquid, so I suspect it would have some results other than just not working. Having used the GSW paints on a white palette, the residue tends to dry in a pearl/opal look. Once I can airbrush again I'll run some experiments, but if anyone else has either tried it or knows the theory behind it then please do give your two cents.
