Filkarion
I like magnets, but...not too much, so I was looking for ideas to make my Knight (WIP topic soon as I am doing a heavy job in conversion and generally giving it a LOT of time) able to swap weapons without having to use magnets But why? well, in my experience magnets are a bit messy, and I always manage to do some errors in the process, so I decided to settle for a kind of "push fit" solution for arms joint My idea was just to cut as shown in the image (in light blue, areas I want to cut off), so that I can put in and out the arms simply by rotating them in a "not my wanted final pose" position...did anyone ever tried something like this? (Hope you understand what I'm aiming for) If someone already tried it with success, please let me know Othervise I will probably experiment! Fenriwolf
There was a tutorial on how to make knight's weapon swappable using rods instead of magnets, but i can't find it for the life of me atm Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353303-imperial-knight-interchangable-weapons-without-magnets/#findComment-5239653 Share on other sites
Jukkiz
You could make them into mushroom pegs too, just cut part of the weapon joint to slide shoulder peg into?Works for transformers, why not GW knights Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353303-imperial-knight-interchangable-weapons-without-magnets/#findComment-5239677 Share on other sites
Filkarion
I'VE DONE IT! And I'm very happy with the result Here's the pictures Here's the trick! Just some cuts of the side of the upper joint and some snips on the lower joint in the part near thr rear of the arm/weapon It's a 10 minutes job to fix all the arms. Positions are important as you want the easyest cut and the less good arm pose the be the one in which the arms are unlocked I fount out the one I choose to be perfect for me, as the model just do not allow to easy place the weapons that way anyway So this is how you join the pices toghether, just put in the front, press to fit the rear and twist to lock, guess there is a name for this kind of joint but I do not know it The arm is on changed to the chainsword I'm very happy! Impressions? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353303-imperial-knight-interchangable-weapons-without-magnets/#findComment-5244584 Share on other sites
Chazzmos
Nice work! I think I might do this too. Is that a blob of blue tac on the third picture to just hold it in place a bit? Filkarion
Thanks! Actually I applied blue tac (actually white tac in my case) almost everywere in the model as I have to have it in one peice for conversion work (I will open a WIP plog as soon as possible) but I want to be able to paint it one bit at a time The blob you see is for the glove, it has nothing to do with the joint, that works just fine without tac Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353303-imperial-knight-interchangable-weapons-without-magnets/#findComment-5259895 Share on other sites
lhg033
Nice idea and execution! I've been toying with ideas on what to do with my knights when i actually get around to doing them. I was thinking either magents or if i could do something with some lego pins/plugs hidden in joints. I'd not even considered the idea of just making them push fit.
