40k scale umbrella

Now this may seem an odd one but I've been trying to source a 40k scale umbrella for my imperial guard commander- as I imagine my commander he would be at the back giving orders rather than waving a sword around so I play to build him on a base drinking a cup of tea (model based on ArtelW's heroic commissar with an aide holding an umbrella over him.

I've failed to source one (can find plenty at 1:35 scale and larger) so how the devil would I go about building an umbrella?

This is hilarious.  Micro Art Studios has a Butler with an Umbrella miniature, but it's metal.  I know you just want the umbrella on like a Guardsman model, so you'll have to pin the arm and weigh the base otherwise he'll likely fall over (and hit the Commander)!

Go to your local watering hole, order a cocktail with an umbrella in it. Job done, and you also get a drink! Trim as required to fit...

A drink sounds nice about now but the giant umbrella would be less useful.

Actually the first thing I thought of but having seen it in the flesh that umbrella is tiny and would have no chance of keeping a pampered officer with a floppy hat dry while he drinks his tea.

Oh, cool, ya, sorry, you've already done the due diligence.

But my thought was...it's not even raining.  The commander just doesn't even want to stand in the sun, as it can burn his delicate skin, and it pains him to have to suffer having to leave his manor house at all.  And giving orders is such a chore, it hurts his throat to raise his voice over the din of battle. Not a counter-point, but just an alternate take.

But srsly, hilarious idea, great job.

Cocktail/match sticks with blister plastic cut to size? Would it be a material umbrella or a (futuristic) bulletproof material? If the latter it could be styled to open concentrically (I'm imaging the look of a engine fan with overlaying sheets - would be easier to construct perhaps).
Have a look for model railway table parasols on eBay- like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-DIY-parasol-Model-Train-Railway-Hanging-umbrella-Gifts-1-75-1-100-OO-TT-Scale/182393651686?hash=item2a778241e6:m:m0MMAsioWB3hRvYQa9zfKqw . I picked up so,etching similar a while back and found some which were about 25mm in diameter, perfect for what you’re looking for.

Heh, that's awesome.

There was a major in the British Army in WW2, Digby Tatham-Warter, who carried an umbrella into battle at Arnhem. He couldn't remember passwords well, so he figured no-one would mistake him for anything other than English if he was carrying an umbrella. He supposedly disabled a german armoured car by poking the driver in the eye through the vision slit with it. He was the inspiration for Major Carlyle in A Bridge Too Far.

Seconding Edt's suggestion of a railway OO gauge parasol, it's around 1:75 - you can get them in different sizes too, so can pick just the right one.

Maybe some Samurai/Japanese lines of models would have a figure or two with an umbrella.

I had a professor who used to talk about how advanced Asian cultures were compared to the west back in the day. "The umbrella: what a marvelous creation! Keeps the rain off your head, the sun off your face."

I like to think there are two types of IG Generals who sit in the rear drinking tea:

A. the incompetent cowards

B. the ones who are so good at what they do they don't even need to get off their duff while conquering another world
