I have seen the ads and watched some gameplay, but I haven't seen much in the way of people's actual thoughts on this remake of a recent game. For those of you that have bought it and played a couple hours how does it compare to the previous version? Are there any added features, and if so how much micromanagement is needed compared to the prior game? And if course, what are your take on this game in general?

Overall, I like it, I like it a lot.

The battles feel bigger than they do in the first one, and just like the first one, one bad choice will cost you the battle.

Things I wish were like the first one, I don't overly care for the fact that strike craft and boarding parties are limited to 3 or 4 usages depending if you have the right talent or not. Space Marines are OP if you can get into boarding range, Chaos isn't as good at boarding....

Speaking of boarding actions, that is the easiest way to kill ships, kill the meat and save the adamantium.

I do find it a shame that you can't customize individual ships in this version but I can see why they changed it. I used to have a lot of pride for my Mechanicus-aligned light cruiser from the first game. It was the fastest ship in the fleet by a considerable margin, it almost always got out of whatever scrapes is got into. Not like my Marine-aligned ship. That hardly ever survived a mission without heavy damage. I imagine with the larger fleets trying to keep track of individual upgrades would have been really difficult.

I haven't started the campaigns yet but the tutorial manages to ramp up the drama pretty quickly.

My current favorite fleet is the Mechanicus one since the skirmish AI isn't very good at dodging fleet-wide use of the Wave Motion Guns Nova Cannons. I do miss torpedoes from standard Imperial Navy ships when I play Mechanicus though.

The Admech fleets(With Nova Cannons, as their light cruisers feel weaker than Imperial Navy) really help in single player to thin the chaff of the attacker before you hit them with your Imperial Navy Cruisers. I can reliably kill 2000+ fleets with 800ish my side with no losses but you really need to get those multiple nova kills in before you engage in close. Also you can send them off to capture points and still hit the main engagement area when they get to the point.

Oh and don't forget to ram things with Imperial to finish them off, especially escort vessels.

I am enjoying the story but I still have the same problems that I did with the previous game. There is alot of filler between the good bits and right now all I seem to be doing is chasing incursions than actually playing the story :(

And for the love of the Omnissiah why is my leader screen bugged, I cannot add them to my fleets...

Well that was a first for me, I was playing a campaign mission, the first one where you have to face 'Nids and some bad luck later and I just quit the mission, not a fan of the A.I. focusing on the mission critical character... I'll go back and try it again later, once I've calmed down a bit. It's just irritating, 4 Mars class Battle Cruisers make short work of just about anything that isn't trying to get stuck in and do ramming / boarding actions....

Edit:

4 tries now, 4 times they A.I has gone out of it's way to target Spire once the 'Nids show up.... They don't even try to distroy the ship, just burn down the troops stat...

Yeah Spire is always low after every mission for me, which means he is always low as it takes a few turns to repair him and right now I have about 10+ attacks incoming. The only thing I can suggest is to keep him behind the others and boost away just before you can guess they will charge. If you do get too close I tend to boost through them to behind where they will try to turn and wont boost.

I am not sure if the Deck sub system deactivates the charge? I also try to have the sentry guns up in my systems it does collect the enemies up a bit ready for Nova cannon spam. There is no way I would be able to win without that. My next turn I have a 2.6k Tyranid fleet against my 1.2, which I am not looking forward to.

I am playing on normal right now and I am really wondering how more difficult it will become on hard. I have had plenty of bugs, mainly when I loose internet, it really doesn't like that.

Hold in there Steel Company, you'll get a mission to stop the invasions, do it asap but be careful as it stops new invasions but you still have to mop up.
