AT Homerules - from wargear to Legio rules

Recommended Posts

Hey fellow Princeps,

I opened this topic to discuss homebrew rules ideas for every aspect of the game.

This is meant as a opportunity to create a broader aspect and depth to the game until further expansions like Titandeath are available.

Just to start some things I would like to see:

Warlord carapace upgrade: Siege equipment - Instead of Weapons it has thick armour and further voidshields/ vs buff. e.g. reigniting on 5+ instead a 6+ and 1 more point of carapace structure/ dmg table -1. potential 1 more servitor clave but that may be too much?

Reaver carapace: comm-network - re-roll 1 command check in the orderphase

Different ranks among the princeps giving different abilities.

Order/movement to turn torso only either like in the rule book mission or as movement to the degree of their maneuvre stats.

There are many more ideas but this is just a start.

I´m looking forward to all the ideas and discussions to come.

Yeah I would allow the mission-specific rule, maybe as stratagem?

We're trying out recording Machine Spirit rolls; so a Titan that is (for example) reveealed to be Haughty in one battle will always act according to the Haughty rules when the Machine Spirit subsequently awakens.

This sounds great for campaigns!

I really like the idea of giving your God Engines character like that.

Is there anything to stop you swapping out a Titan with a "bad" temperament for a "better" one? Just a gentlemen's agreement?

Dallo

I really like the idea of more consistent and characterful machine spirits, but I could see fixed machine spirits being frustrating when you roll something like Haughty or Stalwart for an aggressive Legio like Vulpa. And the opposite, Impetuous or Beligerent for a standoffish Legio like Krytos or Defensor... It's also maybe tough for Fureans, whose ability to pick their results is their strength.

Maybe machine spirit tendencies? For example, when the Titan is purchased, or when its machine spirit awakens in game the first time, roll one D6 followed by another (or two separate colors). One value overwrites another for that Titan. A result of 2 & 5 would mean if that Titan rolls a 2 or 5 on AMS, it is Stalwart? Re-rolling doubles until a result is overwritten, of course.

Or, even simpler, re-rolling a first AMS result if it is not the Titan's default temperament, with the second result standing? Still don't know how that would interact with Fureans, though.

What about a more "controllable" trait system for the Machine Spirit? Something like the old Space Marine chapter trait system, but with a bit more thought to prevent people from gaming it so easily. Maybe a list of broadly positive and broadly negative traits, and then various different methods of selection, eg pick positive, random negative; random positive, pick negative; choose them all, but must take one positive and two negative. So you can control whether you get the benefit you want, or avoid the negative you least want, or have complete control but compound the downside.

Rolling is fine, but I always prefer to pick this kind of thing because defining the character of the thing is part of my process of creating it, and it's annoying when the game insists you go against that because of random rolls.

I like the idea of the machine spirit sharing the temperament of the legion but like the randomness of it from a gameplay point of view. You can’t prefict or control it. The machine literally takes over.

I think a Legio specific awakened table may work better if it was well thought out.

I like the idea of a Legio specific table, but the cynical part of me is thinking that all Krytos options would be along the lines of “Ignore the enemy and fire everything at the nearest building”, because that’s apparently all Krytos are good at. ;)

Let's homebrew some rules for explosive buildings! Like a promethium refinery or ammo dumps and stuff!

What would you think about Maniple specific weaponry?

So instead of or in addition to a maniple rule as a bonus it gives you the opportunity to mount a specific weapon on 1-2 titans.

This way you could field experimental weaponry but at the cost of losing the choice of maniples.

e.g.

Decimator Maniple

1 Warlord 2 Reavers, 2 additional Reavers/ Nemesis Warbringer

The Warlord may take a carapace mounted twin Meltacannon (Reaver stats) for x points.

1 Reaver may take a arm mounted Hellstorm Cannon for x points.

Hellstorm Cannon:

Range S/L T/- Acc -/-

Dice, Strength 6/7

Traits Firestorm

Got some more ideas for fun maniples:

Legate-Maniple

1 Reaver

2 Warhounds

Optional:

2 Warlords

Maniple Trait: Diplomats of Mars

Reaver has to be Princeps Seniores

has Legate-Vox Caster as carapace for 15/20? pts: instead of giving this Titan orders you can place/replace an order of any Titan within that Titans scale (yours and opponents!)

+1 command point

Protector-Maniple

1 Reaver

2 Knight banner (any choice)

Optional:

2 Reaver

2 Knight banner (any Choice)

Maniple Traits Houseguard

Reaver Titans have +1 to hit within scale of opponent.

Knight banners have to consist of knights with the same equippment.

Coordinated assault as in doom of molech for Knight banners!

Dracon-Maniple

3 Warlord Titans

Optional:

2 Reaver Titans

Maniple Trait: Ancient Ones

Warlords get +1 Movement (regular), Reaver +2

Warlords get +1 to hit within scale of opponent

Warlords can repair critical dmg on 3+

Warlords roll on D10 for reactor even in orange, can´t choose to issue shut down orders (except effects that result in shut down order issued)

Lunar-Maniple

1 Warlord

2 Warhounds

Optional:

2 Warhounds

Maniple Trait: Packleader

Warlord has to be Princeps Seniores.

Warlord has 90° front arc for carapace weapons instead of corridor arc.

Warlord has to move towards nearest enemy Titan (if 2 are within same range you may choose).

Warhounds can merge shields with Warlord

Knights should only be able to hit the legs of a Warlord and the legs/arms of a Reaver. Rolling to hit should be harder unless the target was stationary but hit hard. Warlords should have an AoE stomp to clear space or the defense guns should hit harder.

I’m seeing too many battle reports of melee knights butchering Warlords.
