Delta.Skies
Hey guys, just wondering if this was a decent deep striking loadout to fill in my battalion, had to take out my sanguinary gaurd to make this ( made the decision when I decided that the Watchmaster was going to be my warlord, therefore not utilizing all of sanguinary guards abilities and felt like it was an ok move to do so) Sn: also wanted a lil bit of variety so not necessarily your stormbolter / cs / or stormshield, while being stormbolter + etc. Deep Striking Squad or Beacon: 252 pts Watch Sergeant - Power Lance // SB 2 Termies - Power Swords // SB Vanguard Vet - Chainsword // BP Vet - Power Lance // SB 2 Vets - Storm Shield // SB 2 Vets - Plasma Guns // Chainswords Vet - Deathwatch Frag Cannon Figured this Deep Strike Squad can do chip damage to Vehicles // Backup Horde Clearing // TEQ Clearing and screen if i need to. Questions: - how do you feel about a heavy bolter being in the mix, I essentially eliminated my stalker bolter unit, and thats where the Heavy Bolter / Missile Launcher was at, but I still want to potentially place them in other squads but my vets are essential run and gun. - is this squad worth eliminating my Sanguinary Guard - as i ask these things, i am now starting to think about objectives and since Im allying with Blood Angels that im pretty much going for destroy all. It may be more essential to toss 2 intercessors squads rather than this squad? spacewatch
I'm not BA expert (not aware of all the buffs BA can have), but what I have seen Sanguinary Guard is typically (best?) used against MEQ and characters. So, while I believe SG is very good at TEQ clearing I'm quite confident to say that your rather shooty DS team would handle all your other planned roles better. You can further improve unit's shootyness by dropping FG and taking two SB Vets instead. Another good choise would be to drop FG and take another Plasmagun, then make all plasmaguns Combi-plasma and finally take as many SS's as possible. (Combi-plasma gives versatility and after Bolter beta rule it's rather easy to compensate c-p's lost SIA shots with small Biker unit.) What comes to your other questions: 1) you can always use Tempest Shells instead of Hellfire Shells against vehicles so no, I'd not take HB (to a DS team) and 2) yes, I'd take Intercessors instead if their only task is camping objective (in cover) and no, not otherwise. Mobius0288
I've had success with heavy Bolters in Mobile shooting platforms, but I also tried to keep a reroll guy nearby as much as possible. Never shoot hellfires and move unless you have a watchmaster and you're feeling brave. Comparing to BA... Their focus tends to be melee, where Deathwatch is heavily focused on shooting. And now that termies are way cheaper, we're shooty and a bit more durable then regular space marine squads (evens out with price a little bit). I can see an infernus for a mobile/deep strike unit but not a HB. Especially when you can consistently deep strike in rapid fire range almost at will (every now and then, there's good screens). I would also just make the plasma guns combi-plasma. It's only 1 point more. I run a VERY similar squad except I run combi-meltas instead of plasma. Works great when trying to assassinate warlord (decapitation doctrine). The other ones work well too.
