Kasper_Hawser
Not the year of the dog as it was in 2018. I had prayed that it would be a great year for Wolves once the codex was out but sadly I think our expectations were too high, or GW's imagination was running low when they released our codex. Compared to the recent xenos codexes or even the beta Sister Chapter Approved codex, the Wolves have remained...... competent but not outstanding, even lacklustre in my own reckoning. We remain an interesting blend of emphasis on Close Combat but without the speed boosts our units desperately need. As compensation, our shooting, especially Long Fangs suddenly became arguably better than average marines when boosted by strategems (mainly Keen Senses). GW made an odd decision to give our characters some emphasis, yet we don't have the tools to make a good smash captain like the BA, either reducing damage or no overwatch or regenerating CP. I must admit that with the release of the GSC codex, whose rules seem to have taken a drastic overhaul rather than copy and paste from previous edition or even from Index, I feel a bit down regarding my Wolves. But just a bit. I haven't played GSC yet, but I will, although I am intimidated by those multi limbed abominations. This Sunday I will also finally have my first game vs Orks. This time, I hope to have an enjoyable game even if I lose. For me, I hope I'm honest when I say the fun factor takes precedence over the win factor. Of course nobody goes into a game wanting to lose (unless losing is the win condition Sorry, some Board games are like that). So this year, for the new year I pray everyone will continue to have a blast playing their Wolves, and not get themselves down like I am right now on what Wolves can or cannot do, or what they have or don't have in their army and fluff. So once again, Gong Xi Fa Cai (roughly in Mandarin). God bless everyone. PS: In case you wondering, it is the zodiac year of the pig by chinese recknoning. Not the year of the Ork, those guys are giant mushrooms, not giant pigs, at least in 40K. Kasper_Hawser
Phew, feeling stuffed with all the food from yesterday till today. one more day of stuffing on 2nd day of CNY and hopefully that'll be enough for a few days before another banquet comes up. Happy CNY again guys. To those who are celebrating, hope your bounty of red packets is good, enough to buy something new for your Wolves even. Depending on my final count, I'm thinking maybe another Inceptor box. Expand my Plasma exterminator and assault bolter squads. Word of advice to the non-Chinese who know Chinese friends who are celebrating: if you visit them in their houses, depending on how old they are or you are, you will get red packets of small amounts of cash too. :) Think halloween but with cash instead. So go get em. For polite reciprocity, you can bring some oranges as your visit gift when visiting. Normally the older Chinese will do so, although if your friend is married and considerably older, you MIGHT get one from him if you visit.
