Here's a simple tutorial for making chaos 8-pointed stars out of plasticard.  The same technique would likely work for cardbaord if you wanted stars on a curved surface (like a space marine shoulder pad).

1.   Make squares from thin plasticard.  Mine were 5mm, though after gluing them to the models (see below) I wish I had made them a little smaller, though at 5mm they were fiddly enough already.

2.  Cut triangles out of each side.

3.  You should now have 2 pointy little crosses:

4.  Glue the crosses together.

And here they are in use on some models:

I have finally painted some of the minis above, and thought some might appreciate seeing the finished models.

These guys all have heads using the faces from the necromunda goliath kit (where the back of the heads and the fronts are seperate pieces and they give more faces than backs.

Sorry for the triple post, but I now have pictures of the whole squad painted.

I'm really happy how they've come out and despite being genestealer cultist models with only the odd head swap and chaos stars, and even with using purple as a highlight colour (which is a common genestealer cultist colour), they don't jump out as genestealer cultists - but look the part of chaos cultists.
