Yeah seeing the Chaos boys get kits makes you think what could be...

I am currently extremely jaded and cold about the whole thing. It isn't that I hate primaris, in fact I do like them as they have given us options but the way they have been brought out and used as a sledgehammer to get rid of old marines is just not doing it for me.

The only thing currently old marines do well is the fact we have access to all the armour, heavy guns and specialist squads that primaris lack and desperately need to be effective by themselves. They are great mid-fielders and perform well when used as such but when it comes down to extreme range or extreme close they begin to sputter out hard as in the range game marines bring better armour (predators, land raiders and dreadnoughts...I still REALLY dislike the lore regarding redemptors...feels more like a kataphron breacher but with a higher quality "meat puppet") along with better ranged options which largely comes down to being able to take heavy bolters and lascannons, though mainly lascannons (because interceptors aren't so great but again, good at mid-fielding). Then when things get personal, primaris can do ok and hold their own but they can't compete with assault terminators, vanguard veterans or our captains (due to wargear choice). By all accounts the weakest aspect of Primaris in their range is their characters really, their innate +1 to attack and wound stats not being as potent on a singular model as it is across 10 man squads (and the reason you bring characters is often more for their auras and abilities, not their stats unless you are a smash captain).

Certainly, those aspects give old marines a fighting chance of staying in the game. It seems odd so far that Primaris have had such odd design choices placed upon them where they lack such a key aspect of the game really. It is like they sit between ranged and close combat like old marines are advertised as but yet...without old marines they would lack key support that makes them work.

One thing I did think of, seeing the new helix adept, for tacticals is the concept of changing how that squad works. Instead of having special or heavy weapons (again, leave company veterans as the special weapon squads) but instead make tacticals a squad of specialists. They can bring along lesser versions of techmarines, apothecaries and chaplains. Tacticals were meant to be veterans of the company and I would think they would find great use in these individuals who may still be undergoing training and aren't fully fledged yet but need to have some in field experience. Might be a cool avenue to go with them being tactical in how they can support other elements of the army.

I have to speak to Breachers needing to get rules back in 40k...they were not a Horus Hersey unit first...having played extensively during the Badab War 5th and 6th editions I have 30 of those little beauty upgrade kitted maries that get basically zero use unless I apply my own fanmade rules to game with my friends (which they do and it's awesome)

I never realized how much I want new Terminator kits, specifically Indomitus Pattern. Give me those at a greater scale with better proportions and anatomy.

I second that. The company should sculpt Terminator armor with a proper space between the wearer's head and shoulders- make room for a neck- and move the head rearwards, so it looks like he's standing upright, instead of thrusting his head forwards like a dog straining against his leash. As is, the Terminators look like deformed dwarves with arms growing out the sides of their heads- NOT Champions of Humanity, as the proportions don't look human.

For me this is one of the main reasons I dislike phasing out/de-emphasising of Classic Marines: no more historical battles.

The Badab War and Tyrannic Wars are so iconic and fuel for all sorts of new and exotic models to be introduced into 40K.

:(

I'm with you Captain Idaho...:unsure.:

I've come to this conclusion...I mean when or if the phase out actually happens, are people just going to throw 30 years of marines in the garbage? No. And will Gw? I don't think so...they're far too iconic for them to do so. I survived the loss of both of my fantasy armies Brets and Tomb Kings, small marines will endure always and if not then they will in the stories/lore. They will be played in the events prior to the great rift, the hopeful upcoming FW(at some point) Great Scouring after FW is done with Horus Heresy. Small marines will live on forever and have a place in Warhammer games, it's just up to us how we play with them.

I'd like to ask everyone who's contributed to this thread to make sure they put their Classic Marines choices here into the Community Survey coming in April.

Many thanks.

:)

Ugh that Terminator Librarian is so close to awesome, and absolutely would be a must buy if it weren't for the fact that his arms are in the wrong damn place.

I'm fully committed to the Primaris bandwagon, but I am definitely going to be bringing up Terminators in all ways in the survey. I want them to be imposing figures on the table, both in the rules and the models.

117 people! That's great. Shows, comparing to active members and forum traffic here etc that there is a substantial percentage of the Community who want to see something new for Classic Marines. :)

I am pretty miffed that Primaris were released before updated versions of Indomitus Terminators, scouts and a character kit (ie chaos lord) were released for Space Marines.

I want to try and get my hands on those new special release terminator models at some point.
