Scars, Path of Heaven, Praetorian of Dorn, Know no Fear.. and i'd add Unremembered Empire, Pharos, Angels of Caliban and Ruinstorm. The first three are my favorites in the HH whilst the others are good in my opinion, though i understand many arent interested in imperium secundus. I liked reading about it myself.

For Iron Warriors you got Angel Exterminatus that is entirely focused on Pertubaro, and Slaves to Darkness.

What did you think of the books you've read so far? That'll go along way to aid recommendations.

The First Heretic and Know no Fear is the first pair that come to mind. First Heretic is a must read, one of the series' very best. Know No Fear is a semi-sequel that redeemed the Ultramarines in the eyes of most. It's not skipping ahead in the timeline too much either, the Battle of Calth happens around the same time as the Dropsite Massacre I believe.

First thanks for the input so far got a few Credits to spend so know what im doing with the first one (slaves to darkness and angel Extermimatus).

First heretic and know no fear sound like a good shout!

I loved The initial arc Seemingly ending with Flight of the Eisenstein/ Fulgrim The story seems to splinter from there. My favorite book of the series so far tho is a Thousand sons. I enjoyed Master of mankind (got through that off the back of the black legion books) as anything ADB seems to write in 40k is awesome to consume it seems. i enjoyed the decent of angels despite that one being a more accidental purchase was planing to circle back round to that thread eventually

Main story / anything about any of the original characters would be awesome, had some minor spoilers about those which are hard to avoid.

a continuation of what books to read to see what happens after the events of a thousand sons If there is that story dont want to skip a book and miss anything related to that or worse and skip forward too far and spoil something lol

If you'd like to read in arcs, here's what I suggest:

The First Heretic > Aurelian (Eye of Terra) > Know no Fear > Betrayer

  • The Word Bearers Ultramarines feud, World Eaters feature.

Legion > The Crimson Fist (Shadows of Treachery) > Praetorian of Dorn

  • The Alpha Legion and Imperial Fists do solo action before a big confrontation

The Unremembered Empire > Pharos > Angels of Caliban > Ruinstorm if you want

  • Imperium Secundus, deals with the fallout of Betrayer, explains where the Ultras, Blood Angels, and Dark Angels were for much of the heresy

Angel Exterminatus > Tallarn > Slaves to Darkness

  • Perturabo's arc, the other traitors feature heavily

Scars > The Path of Heaven > The Buried Dagger if you want

  • The White Scars and the Death Guard struggle to find their place in the Heresy before heading to Terra

Prospero Burns > The Crimson King > Wolf King > Wolfsbane if you want

  • The Thousand Sons and Space Wolves arcs that began in A Thousand Sons grow and intermingle

Books worth a read (IMO) that don't belong to any particular arc:

  • Mechanicum, Fear to Tread, Deliverance Lost and Corax IF you like Gav Thorpe, all of The Primarchs Series.

EDIT: And this is hardly everything in the Heresy I'd recommend. But if you aren't going in order the full novel and novella story arcs are my first recommendations before you dig into things like the Thramas Crusade or the Iron Hands arc which occupy mostly shorts.

thank you very much this should keep me going for a while !

I'd add in that as you liked MoM & ATS, the three arcs that Roomsky recommends (each starting Prospero, Scars, the First Heretic) are very good.

They somewhat cross-reference/overlap in theme and ideas, which makes them doubly enjoying given MoM & ATS.

In that respect, all the components of those three that Roomsky recommends could be read as one big arc that diverges slightly, but is much more coherent and without wasted effort.

But, as you happily enjoyed Descent of Angels, I think the important aspect is getting certain books in the right order (e.g. First Heretic through to Betrayer then on to Unremember Empire, for example) - but individually, and especially in audio format, I think you'll enjoy the whole damn lot!

Picking fun chains to sustain interest and maximise benefit is a good plan though, and Roomsky's chains are v good recommendations.

First Heretic and Betrayer are two of my instinctive recommendations, so I'm inclined to lean towards

The First Heretic > Aurelian (Eye of Terra) > Know no Fear > Betrayer

  • The Word Bearers Ultramarines feud, World Eaters feature.

However! The White Scars Heresy arc was also phenomenal (and I say that as someone who had little interest in that Legion going into Wraight's pieces).

So I'd recommend the WS / Death Guard arc too!

Scars > The Path of Heaven > The Buried Dagger if you want

  • The White Scars and the Death Guard struggle to find their place in the Heresy before heading to Terra

Roomsky put together a perfect list for this topic.
