Noserenda
So i had a possible idea for a board based in the Necromunda underhive, basically like a cave system made by sump eating through metal/rock.To rep that look i was thinking, if i took a sheet of Blue extruded poly, masked off where i wanted walls etc to stay and gave in a spray, would it melt in a useful way to look melted/corroded? Or would it just melt and choke me on fumes :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353990-spray-paint-and-blue-foampolystrene/ Share on other sites
micahwc
I would try it on a small piece first to see, but I think that would work pretty well. You can mask the polystyrene with acrylic paint or watered down white glue. Subtle Discord
Yes, you can do this to create a very interesting melted organic look if you use a solvent based spray but I can be tricky to control the outcome. As suggested, be sure to do some test to get the knack of it before you try it on something that you'll want to keep. Better yet, use the technique to create large sheets and/or formations of altered material and then just cut it to shape for the project. Ovidius Incertus
Very cool idea! I'd love to see the WIP. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/353990-spray-paint-and-blue-foampolystrene/#findComment-5261002 Share on other sites
FelipeFlops
Can vouch for covering the areas you don't want to melt with PVA glue. PeteySödes
In my experience it doesn't melt in a way that would be convincing. It can look a bit too organic, which is why you used to see a ton of tyranid terrain made that way. Lots of things react poorly(or great) with XPS though. Definitely try a few things though and dont gas yourself!
