In light of how wounds are allocated in 8th Edition, is it better to just equip both Soulreaper Cannon and Hellfyre Missile Rack on a single model, assuming I want to bring both? I can't see any downsides to doing this, especially since sniper rifles lost the ability to target specific models, which as far as I know, was the main reason why it is not advised to stack too many special stuffs on a single model in previous editions.

Also, I would still love to hear arguments against bringing both or even any of them!

I'm asking because I would like to be certain that I'm not making a mistake chopping up scarab termi arms off and swapping them around.

With the new buff to their regular bolt weapons, I think the special weapons simply cost too much in comparison. If you still want to bring both though, then I agree with you, it is better to model both on the same model.

Even before Bolter Discipline, it made more sense on Rubrics. On Terminators you lose twice as much bolter shots for the same number of soulreaper shots so relatively it was a poor trade off. Now it's much worse, since Terminators are always double firing.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Ya I think it is quite costly too for what it does. But it looks so good though! Here's hoping they buff it in light of bolter drill.

How would you all buff the SRC, just out of curiousity?

This sounds like a job for magnets, on the rather cavalier assumption that GW might realise that the TDA SRC is devalued by the bolter rule (which is a good idea, so surely unintended/missed consequence) and give it some help

I can still argue for the SRC against SOME targets (Primarily T8 and T4 explicitly...), but cheaper Scarab Occult are never a bad thing and got a really nice buff with the Bolter rule!

The SRC has its uses but especially now with bolter drill is 8 points worth +1str and -1AP? I don't think so in regular games especially since hoards are so popular.

I'd say its still worth it.

You need that tiny bit of extra oomf sometimes.  +1S and -1Ap on 4 shots is worth the small cost bump, especially when your gunner (who also carries the missiles) will be the last to die in the squad (or second to last, if the psyker is more important at the moment)

It doesn't seem like much, but it actually translate to about 60% more firepower against MeQ

(also, 7 points upgrade over inferno combi, not 8. just to be a nitpick)

On a rubric is much more of an obvious take, but on a scarab its still good.

I've taken 10 SOT with cannons and missiles and they were my VIP. Had stuff bounce off of them all game, while they racked up a kill count. 2 Razorbacks, 10 grey hunters, a primaris dread, and finished off a sicaran. They finished the game with 6 remaining.

Well worth the points to me.

A little thread necro here.

Contemplating purchasing the KT kit of SOT and wondering if I should model them as 4 SOT and 1 termy sorceror(to give my army access to an additional CP) or 5 SOT to get access to two missile racks.

Thoughts?

I think the additional CP is far less relevant than getting to shoot twice with a large squad, and/or getting to use VotLW on a larger squad, and/or increasing the invuln on a larger squad.

Funnily enough just before I read this post I was putting 5 SOT together and I want to add them to my 5 existing SOT. My biggest regret is my original SOT squad which is painted has a cannon in it, and it really isn't worth it. I play without it (even though it's modeled that way.)

So the squad I'm putting together right now is just 5 dudes with Warp Bolters, and one has a Missile Rack.

That's my feeling too.

Most of my AT is focused around a DP and 2 maulerfiends. I'm about to add a laspred but I think two sets of missile racks on turn 2 or 3 can really help!

Do you think the missile rack is really worth it? I just feel the points can be spent elsewhere, but I havent played in like a year so why do i know anymore.

Totally depends on the list. At only -2 AP and D3 damage, I agree it isn't stellar. However in my pure Thousand Sons list (and I mean pure), I find it essential for chipping a few wounds off of something that smites haven't taken care of. But quite honestly with the influx of Forgeworld Dreads in a lot of lists, they become far less useful.

And as I dont have the budget for FW, they will be essential in my lists when facing armoured lists.

But the 215 points(5 SOT and 2 missiles) can always be invested into other things (spawns for example) if I'm facing off against less armoured foes.

And as I dont have the budget for FW, they will be essential in my lists when facing armoured lists.

With a heightened base, a TS head and some tentacles, I think a venerable dread will pass as Hellforged Contemptor in most casual environments.
