What shade of red for Red Templars?

I am continuing with my army but have decided to add some changes, perhaps a new shade of red, what would you suggest?

Again I am sorry for putting this into the black templar forum, I don't think there is a current one Red templar, it would be very helpful if you point it out for me.

Since the Red Templars are a Successor of the Imperial Fists Legion and are not known to be descended from the Black Templars Chapter, I'm moving this over to the Imperial Fists forum.

As for the color, what shade of red have you been working with? The red color of the armour in your avatar would seem to indicate a brighter red, similar to that used by the Blood Angels. If that's what you're looking for, I suggest checking some Blood Angels tutorials.

The Sons of Sanguinius book (Blood Angels painting guide) suggests the following for red armour:

  • gallery_26_6416_30.gif Mephiston Red basecoat
  • gallery_26_6416_30.gif Agrax Earthshade wash
  • gallery_26_6416_30.gif Mephiston Red layer
  • gallery_26_6416_30.gif Evil Sunz Scarlet layer
  • gallery_26_6416_30.gif Fire Dragon Bright highlight
  • gallery_26_6416_30.gif Ungor Flesh edge highlight
Alternately, the Flesh Tearers are painted in a darker crimson. Sons of Sanguinius suggests the following:
  • gallery_26_6416_30.gif Khorne Red
  • gallery_26_6416_30.gif Nuln Oil
  • gallery_26_6416_30.gif Wazdakka Red

Or are you looking to try other manufacturers' paints?
Since you intend to stick with Citadel paints, I strongly recommend that you get the Citadel Paint App. It's free and can be used on your mobile device to find paint recipes and to keep track of the paints you have/need. You can find more information at Games Workshop's site. I can regurgitate the recipes from the app as I did above, but those paint swatches are guesses. One of the benefits of the app is that is shows what the paints actually look like on a model (they use Space Marine backpacks), so you'll get a much better idea of which recipe works best for the effect you desire.
