Raven Guard 3rd Company

Hi there, I would like to share with you my first steps in building a commando-style RG-army including more Hellblasters, Reivers and the new Shadowspear minis. It will be played either as an infantry based pure RG or as support for my Cadian IG regiment.

This looks very nice, the finish is very Matt. How was it achieved? Also, it is my personal taste but I read in the HH book shattered legions that RG power armour doesn't reflect any light so I use that as an excuse for not highlighting mine, not even a light drybrushing; just Vallejo black airbrush primer and Nuln oil (a crime, I know)

The Vallejo Matt Varnish in the sparaycan is the most matt varnish I have ever seen. I love it. Surprisingly it kind of fits the theme. Interesting thing about the reflection. I felt very incomfortable about the highlights but there is danger that the army looks very "flat". In weak light they look a bit darker. Maybe they covered their armor on black 2.0 ? Would fit very well.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback, appreciate it!

Welcome to the Spire!!!

Very flat black, I like that. Armor appears to lack depth though, probably from the lack of highlights. Even though they are well done they just look not finished.

What would you add to it? II think I start to understand what is missing. Maybe more and stronger highlights?

I like your black! Is it airbrushed? Also, I'd ignore the "does not reflect light" talk from novels. If you try to paint black without light, it looks like you couldn't do better. Keep it matte, without sharp reflexes, as you did.

Thank you! Yes it is done with airbrush. Black undercoat then a light Vallejo "The Fang"- type color, Vallejo intermediate blue. Nuln oil wash and then a light grey-blue. via airbrush and as edge highlights. For some reason I dont like hard and very intense edge highlights, maybe that is the reason why they look kind of "unfinished".

Found a picture for non-reflecting black, i think that would not make nice minis :biggrin.:
