Cannon fodder troops

My last game against Tau (gunline) I took PM's and now wish I had run my 60 Poxwalkers and typhus instead...........

Poxwalkers are fun to use and can be a decent threat with VOTLW and some psychic support.

I have 30 plague bearers but have only used them a couple of times and am not overly experienced with the daemon codex.  I found they were durable, but did struggle to actually kill stuff.

I also have 40 cultists, but can't remember the last time I used them.

With a herald nearby PB become str 5, granted they don’t have VOTLW, but have the virulent blessing power which increases your wound rolls by +1 and then any roll of a “6” becomes double damage with the power. They are not fearless though, so you either spend CP to auto pass, or take a banner and hope to roll a “1” and get D6 models back.

If you want to run PB it’s best to take them in a demon detachment for the Loci and the he various demon strats, IMO.

Not sure on points, as I don’t have my book on me, but a decent and cheap little battalion of;

Spoilpox scrivener

Poxbringer

30x PB

2x nurglings squads

Is pretty cheap (ish), has good board control and decent buffs for the PB. And it adds 5 CP!

I've enjoyed a high-low mix of a few small Plague Marine squads with 20 Poxwalkers and 2 10 man cultist squads. That's about 40 chaff and you can run no PMs (I do for fluff) for a good batallion base. After much playing Poxwalkers either need a huge amount (60) with Typhus or just take 20 as fearless chaff but don't take 20 and Typhus. Cultists are surprisingly useful with autoguns either as objective campers or human bubble wrap.
