I failed miserably to get many eldar painted. As expected, preparing for a 30k event in may took up the start of my year, and then Leviathan got in the way over the summer so I didn't get much done on the old Eldar - aside from the Wraithguard. Their reputation in 10th also didn't enthuse me about building and playing with them, so 10th has been tyranids only for me so far! These items will remain on my 2024 to do list, maybe minus the war walkers as they cannot be taken in units of 3 now... Xenith Posted February 2 Author Share Posted February 2 Welp, been a while, but I've pulled the trigger and ordered the Eldar Codex and some dice - I love army dice anyway, but with these being bright orange, they match my Eldar perfectly, so it was hard to resist. I'm a bit down on nids at the moment despite being...ok...but the army seems pretty one dimensional - it's ok if you're playing in tournaments and have 3 exocrines and 80 - 120 gaunts, but for the average player, the units still seem lacklustre, very much if my opponent can kill me, they win, if they can't I win, as opposed to actually doing a lot of damage. Maybe I just need to play more! I've only played a handful of games with mine and it wasn't fantastic (then GW lowered the points and I no longer had a 1000pts). The blue/purple one and the green/yellow were done years ago as trial schemes - I almost painted them all in the green/yellow scheme. The checks on the blue one were done with thinned black paint, while the yellow and the red one were using a micron pen, so a little cheating, but worth it in the end for the relative ease of doing so! BTW, I'm surprised you used contrast for some of them - I would have thought a very runny pigment would be very difficult for precise work like this, where you most definitely want the paint to stay in one precise place. Contrast paints are highly pigmented and flow off the brush easily. As long as you don't have too much on the brush, you can control it pretty well (like the old inks from the 1990s). They flow really well off the brush, have a huge amount of pigment in them, and you can glaze and do detailed work and such no problem, as long as you're not overloading the brush. I've really fallen out of 40k since about 6 months into 10th - I didnt manage to get one of the short run mission packs, and I don't own the current pack so it's hard to feel motivated to play when you don't/cant own a set of the rules, and the game itself just seems overly complex. That, and maybe I've forgotten the reason to play is to have fun, not to win. My local club is running a double elimination tournament soon, and I think it would be fun to enter with little to no expectation. The only current armies I have rules for are nids and eldar, and my nids seem woefully off-meta, so Eldar it is! I've come up with a quick list, please let me know what you think of it in terms of competitiveness! List 1 125 - Asyurmen 80 - Autarch wayleaper, glaive, fusion gun 120 - Fuegan 120 - Lykhis 90 - 5 dark reapers 75 - 5 dire evengers 220 - 10 fire fragons, exarch dragon fusion gun (or is the firepike better?) 95 - 5 banshees, executioner 95 - 5 banshees - executioner 55 - 5 rangers 55 - 5 rangers 190 - 10 swooping hawks (seem nasty with the grenade pack ability) 45 - 1x warlock skyrunner (perfect action mon-keigh) 95 - 5 warp spiders - I've gone for exarchs ddeath spinner, but is the spinneret better? 95 - 5 warp spiders - same as above 85 - 5 scorpions - biting blade 130 - falcon - pulse laser, scatter laser 125 - wave serpent, twin lances 85 - war walker - twin lances 1980pts - I can swap the warlock to a vyper to get 2000 on the nose, or save it for an enhancement. What do you think? Fuegan is a WIP, the Dire Avenger (anf his unit) was completed earlier this year and awaiting pics, while I've decided to paint my scond unit of spiders as close to the original model art as possible, and I'm in the blocking out stage.
