MK VI Armor

Recommended Posts

My Fiance is starting a Raven Guard army, and she really likes the MK VI Corvus armor. I've picked up a few tactical squads for her so far, but the one thing I cannot find information on is the jump packs available to MK VI. Would she just use the 40k equivalent? Or was there a specific make of jump pack for the Corvus Armor? I'm thinking just using the GW plastic jump packs they sell for $8.

The Standard Plastic Jump Pack is perfectly fine for Mk VI; otherwise, try to find some plastic Sanguinary Guard Jump Packs since those are essentially Mk IV Jump Packs but should be markedly cheaper to acquire.

Personally, I'd try to go for Mk IV Jump Packs due to Dark Furies and how theirs are just modified Mk IV's but thats just me.

Slips is bang on here (though I personally think the standard jump packs were only introduced with MKVII, there is nothing to confirm which is correct). The other not so cheap option are the jump packs which come with the (production) MKV assault squads. They are the closest to MKVI power packs in terms of their design.

What a great line of inquiry.  And I, too, think you can use the standard 40k jump packs, or the Sanguinary Guard jump packs to emulate Dark Fury squads (that's a great suggestion).  It comes down to this:

Or was there a specific make of jump pack for the Corvus Armor?

imho the answer is no.  Evidence we have includes how Dark Fury squads use modified jump packs like those made for Mk IV, then Mk VI and Mk VII share the same 40k standard make later on, therefore it wasn't built with a specific jump pack in mind (nor vice versa).  But imho the most telling piece of archaeotechnology is about where Mk VI came from and how it even came to be named after Corvus of the Raven Guard.

Mk VI was beta tested by just the Raven Guard against the Eldar...which means they weren't even sure they were going to be a standard/mass produced thing, and iirc the other Primarchs leaned towards heavier armour.  In fact iirc its famous comparative advantage, its light weight was meant initially for stealth, but Marines quickly figured out that light weight also made it great for jump packs (sidenote - ever notice FW never released Mk III jump pack units?  Mk III was basically Mk II with more plating, thus was too clunky for jump pack assault, nice touch Edit - this theory debunked in the next post!  :biggrin.:  But I noticed Mk II had an Assault Squad and Mk III didn't).

Thus, the fact that we've seen Mk VI use different jump packs and the fact that it was naturally good for jump pack assault (although that wasn't necessarily its primary purpose, it was like a secondary benefit) means, well, you're good with 40k jump packs!  I also think with 30k headed into the later Heresy now, and that in your fiance's case its Raven Guard, who beta-tested the original Mk VI...consider those 40k jump packs too to be early beta test copies of what they'll be producing for the next 10k years.  It'd totally make sense.

I agree with your points N1SB but I will be a biiiiit cheeky and point to the Ashen Circle Marines which one can consider being a Jump Pack equipped unit in a variant of Mk III

But yes, for Mk VI Specifically, you essentially have free reign to choose any jump pack mark you want it really comes down to the aesthetic you would be looking for your Jump Pack marines to have.

You can use any jump pack you like really, but don't be suprised when people will scoff that current assualt marine one is not "30k friendly" - as far as I know it was not used during GC or HH (ie. you can't find written fluff supporting it and neither it appears on any FW color plate or miniture).

If you want to go plastic take SG jump packs OR (if you don't mind a bit of cutting and sanding down stuff) chaos raptors double turbine ones. Or ineed, some third party.
