Tyriks
I’d prefer it if they steered clear of old conflicts entirely to be honest. When they invent new conflicts, people complain that it came out of nowhere or doesn't fit the history. So hopefully they do both so people who just want to rehash the old battles can do so, but people who want new material can have that, too. Well, completely wish listing here but I’d like to see “Historic 40K” given over to the Forge World guys and given the Imperial Armour treatment (covering conflicts such as Armageddon etc). Whilst I’m unhappy with some of the new lore I think Vigilus has been a good way of introducing different factions and models whilst advancing a wider conflict. Unfortunately, FW have their hands completely full at the moment, what with HH, LotR, and all the specialist games. Otherwise, Fires of Cyraxus would have been released. Also, while I love the gritty settings shown off in Imperial Armour books, I think there's also a place for some more "goofy" settings, especially when Orks are involved. I don't want Orks to be complete jokes, but I still want an element of sillyness with them for instance, and that's the kind of thing the main studio doesn't shy away from doing, even in massive conflicts like Armageddon. Trevak Dal
How important are the old important world's with the great rift about? And why can't the Imperium go out of the Galaxy and over the rift? Tyriks
How important are the old important world's with the great rift about? And why can't the Imperium go out of the Galaxy and over the rift? The Immaterium is linked to life forms. If there's no life you might not be able to use it. So going over the rift might be possible at sub-light speeds only, which is not really a solution. Doctor Perils
And even if you got round the rift, you'd still need the light of the astronomicon to navigate... but that is so dim in Imperium Nihilus that it's really difficult to use But that's one of the reasons why I hope rogue traders and navigators get a lot more attention in the coming years Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354366-future-directions-theory-crafting-future-release-40k/page/3/#findComment-5277058 Share on other sites
Karhedron
How important are the old important world's with the great rift about? And why can't the Imperium go out of the Galaxy and over the rift? Apparently travelling through the Warp isn't like flying through conventional 3-dimensional space. The Warp is full of storms and disturbances of varying size and duration. As such, the Imperium relies on well-known and plotted stable routes a lot of the time. Whilst it may be possible to circumvent the great rift by going above or below, it would probably massively increase the length and risk of the journey. Mapping out new warp routes and seeking to expand the Imperium is primarily the job of the AdMech Explorator fleets. I would be very surprised if they are not seeking alternative routes between the two halves of the Imperium (especially given Guilliman's "just get on with it" approach). But I suspect it will be a long and slow process with no guarantee of success. Ishagu
Whilst the galaxy is indeed a disk, that disk is still a thousand light-years or more thick. A lot of people don't realise this. Flying under or over with conventional engines at near the speed of light would take thousands of years minimum. A warp route around could be very difficult and slow also. Ishagu
That almost makes it look like a rip in space. Can't really tell how thick it is but it seems to be the same as the galaxy. There's nothing above it. The strange aura shining from it, that could also be very dangerous as it could be warp energy. If so it's 10,000 light years of danger. Shinespider
This is basically where I'd hoped Vigilus was going to go: 1. Vigilus Sangua Terra is compromised and the Nachmund Gauntlet becomes unreliable. 2. The only way to cross the Maledictum reliably is by pushing through with a newly-designed "Icebreaker" ship, with a massive Noctilith prow that temporarily pushes the warp out of the way. The process is slow, and the Icebreaker ships are extremely few in number due to the difficultly of acquiring the necessary quantities of Blackstone. 3. Guilleman issues the Edict of Autonomy, giving Sectors in the Imperium Nihilus the right to divert resources towards their own self-defense and self-governance. 4. Abaddon launches a massive effort to claim the entire Imperium Nihilus. He's successful for a while, but is eventually stopped. (probably by the Khan or Russ or whatever.) So basically the dark half of the galaxy isn't a single coherent Imperium anymore - it's a scattered mess of semi-autonomous fiefdoms. Some of these have been conquered by Chaos and are under the control of the Dark Gods, but most continue to offer at least nominal fealty to the Imperium. The main point of this would be to provide for more opportunities to explore distinct societies as they develop unmoored from the cultural gravity of the Imperium. Normal-people-living-under-chaos is one of the most chronically under-explored aspects of the setting, but the loyalist sectors have a lot of potential as well. One sector might end up being directly governed by the local SM chapter, while another might negotiate a relationship with the T'au empire. These kinds of major divergences might not work in the proper Imperium but would become possible with a bit of autonomy. And of course, if you want to tells stories about the monolithic Imperium, you still have the entire other half of the galaxy in which to do that. Marshal Rohr
I'm not seeing it. I'd need to see it at a 90 degree angle. Theres a lot of space between the bottom and the top of the galaxy.
