BlightLord load outs

Always a squad of 10, every single time. 2 Flails are 10000% mandatory. Axes on the other 8.

Options afterwards are: cheap combi-bolters x 8, 2 x Launcher + 6 x combi-bolter, or all combi-plasma. Combi-plasma requires Prescience and is trickier to make work -- keep 'em cheap and focus 'em on crushing infantry, while using psyker buffs and close combat on bigger stuff (combined with Veterans).

Aye the thing about Blight Lords is that they grind incredibly well. 2+/4++/5+++ is super durable. They're basically one of the few Terminator units out there that really feel as hardy as they should.

 

I wouldn't ever discount combi-weapons on them, deep striking down and being able to raprid fire plasma at 18" is nasty, and massed melta can really ruin some units day - however this obviously makes the unit more of a target and you will probably only pay for one good round of shooting.

 

Always remember the combo of Veterans of the Long War, Blades of Putrefaction and Aura of Rust, it means these guys get the bonus AP on a 4+ and are causing bonus mortal wounds on a 5+. Rip 'n' Tear!

Personally, I keep them cheap.  They are so expensive that IMHO going full combi-plasma is a trap as it makes them hugely expensive and while they are pretty tanky, they aren't invincible and weight of fire will kill them.  My usual loadout is simple:  All combi-bolters (one combi-plasma if I'm playing full WYSIWYG), 1x Flail, 1x Blight Launcher, axes for everyone (Balesword on champ if I'm going full WYSIWYG).  I deepstrike them either on an objective or to tear up light infantry, usually supported by a winged Daemon Prince with Blades of Putrefaction.  I once had Blightlords w/Blades and VOTLW wipe out 14 Death Company in a single turn, then a captain and Lemartes the following turn.  It was glorious.

Dunno, I think they are durable enough to justify the high cost as they will be able to shoot it multiple times or draw a LOT of fire.

Blight Lords are actually the one DG unit I'm really scared to face if the rest of the army is solid (something my DG opponent didn't figure out just yet as usually he puts way too much into reserves and equips his reserves for melee so I have 2-3 turns to win the game before they do something ^^).

I love blight lords. They are probably the only termie option currently worth taking in 8th from any power armor army.

 

If you plan on DSing them with a HQ choice that gives them arch contaminator then I would do blight launchers. I do suggest doing 10 of them. Two flails are required no matter what situation you plan on using them for. Ditto for giving them all bubotic axes.

 

If you DS them without arch contaminator (which is what I do) then I would drop a chaos termie lord with them to give rerolls. Keep 2 flails, one reaper autocannon and the rest with combi plasma. You can now supercharge the combi plasma  with a reroll of 1's right there. I also would give the termie lord a combi plasma. That gives you a lot of wound potential.
