Top 5 Space Wolves?

The Slayer

Recommended Posts

Long fangs (keen senses and wolfs eye with natural reroll of 1s makes them a good unit that can be pumped up to elite)

Wulfen

Bjorn with lascannons (best glass cannon in the game and can hide using character rules)

Rune priest (tempest wrath is very powerful and chooser of the slain can be handy with certain combos like a leviathan. Give him armor of russ and you have a utility support all star)

Smash lord (conflicts with bjorn but can be tooled up with relic and warlord trait to become a nightmare melee unit)

SW's are really diverse and i think you will find that people have very varied tastes. Are you just wondering what people use, or are you looking for a tourney list? I run my list with high count of primaris for lore reasons, however it isn't going to win any tournaments.

Top 5 units (performance based, but not necessary good looking)

Wulfen

Intercessor

Smash Jarl/Thane

Shield Dreads

Leviathan

For games

Bjorn (he is an auto include for me.)

Long fangs (I use missile launchers or plasma)

Rune priest

Aggressors (The have never let me down, back yard campers do not like these guys.)

Grey Hunters (If I would not bring at least two squads I would feel dirty)

My favorite models

Wolf packs ( I really mean the box of ordinary foot slogging space wolves, best box in the whole GW range.)

Axe and shield dread

Ulic

Bjorn

Fenrisian wolves

Cpt. Danjou

A mix of rule of cool, models that I love and effectiveness on the table but I would go with:

Wulfen (specifically TH and SS wulfen as they scare people and take a lot to put down)

Axe and Shield dreads (just cool as hell)

Wolf Lord with TH/SS and JP (hits like a truck and is fast and tough)

Long Fangs (reliable long range anti tank which we don't have a huge amount of outside vehicles)

Wolf Guard Termi's decked out for close combat (very non competitive I know but I love the idea of bringing down a squad of the Jarl's chosen bad asses to wreck face)

My first love: Grey Hunters. Cooler Tactical marines, the true flexible marines despite what the codex says. We have so many cool looking armour and poses, that it'll take years before you run out of ideas to assemble your marines which don't look alike at all unlike the Codex ones.

2nd: Bjorn the Fellhanded, I prefer mine with Plasma cannon solely for fluff. It's what he used when he fought Magnus in 1st Battle of the Fang

3rd: Logan Grimnar 5th edition: when the High King truly was the High King and inspired his battle brothers to fight better and harder. For those who don't know, he used to be able to give a unit special rules per battle turn, like Prefered Enemy for reroll 1s to hit, Tank Hunters to reroll armour penetration rolls, and one more rule I forgot.

4th: Razorback with Twin Assault Cannon- can you say Dakka dakka dakka?

5th: Stormfang - EVEN MORE DAKKA! Plus its cheaper now.

Competitive wise, I would add Long fangs as well, but when I first started out, I wasn't really into Long Fangs, this was the age where Lascannons could only penetrate AV13 on 4s instead of wounding on 3s today.

I don’t think we even have 5 auto includes lol. Competitiveness wise, must haves id go:

Bjorn

Wulfen

Long fangs

Rune priest

Any self respect wolf player must haves? Then:

Bjorn

Long fangs

Shield dread(s)

Grey hunters

Some flavor of WG

Not a very experienced player but what i always take are

Wulfen

Grey hunters on razorbacks

Longfangs (missile launchers)

Thunderwolves (storm shields and an assortment of weapons)

and rune priests usually 2 of them

I would take Bjorn but i dont have him and i like to field what i got and no proxies and such (just my thing)

I'm seeing a lot of people saying Fangs, how are you all playing them? I ran two squads of them (one with 4x missiles, one with 4x plasma) in a tournament at the weekend, and they didn't make their points back in any of my games.

As for my top 5

Wulfen

Axe shield dreads

Rune priest

Wolf lords

(I ran these in a death ball unit over the weekend, they all did great work)

And Bjorn (couldn't fit him in my list for the weekend, he hits like a truck though)

Making points back is a hugely flawed metric, even for a unit thats designed to kill. Personally though I run 3 las, 1 HB, 1 ML. Threatens big stuff and can pour on MW in a pinch. I take a WGTDA leader with a SS/SB for tanking. As an example of the points fallacy, if i put that unit in cover it eats so much fire that they are worth it if they wiff every single shot since people are so scared of them.

LF plasma bomb is feared in my league

No defense except hiding out of LOS

Put LF on the hunt (1cp)

Pop out and use 36" range to select somewhere you like

Activate keen senses (1cp) and hit on 3s (including flyers and eldar and plague bearers)

If firing at high T or must kill unit activate wolfs eye (1cp)

And finally option to overcharge with natural rerolls of failure 1s

Reliable and hard hitting alpha strike. Guaranteed to get 1 round of effective firing

100% agree FPS. A unit that gets wiped or made useless but that demands twice it's value, or more, to wipe it just did something even if it's gone in a single shooting phase. Spending some CP's to pop out and delete something first makes it such a bullet magnet that with WG SS/SB it will save a lot of other units.
