Knockagh
https://www.blacklibrary.com/new-titles/the-horus-heresy/mercy-of-the-dragon-eshort-2019.html This, in my opinion should have been the subject for Vulkans primarch book. It would have been a great read. I’m unlikely to buy this as it’s ebook short only. Has anyone read it and obliging enough to give me a short synopsis? Roomsky
The story swaps between Vulkan meeting the Emperor for the first time, and Vulkan bringing one of his first worlds to compliance while the Big E and Ferrus are in attendance. Vulkan wonders about what his true place is, among the stars or among "his" people. In the end, Vulkan tanks a missile to save a child of the enemy, and those who looked on decide to lay down their arms because he seems like a swell guy. Not bad for a Kyme story. About on par with Artefacts, I think. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354474-mercy-of-the-dragon/#findComment-5274722 Share on other sites
Knockagh
Cheers, sounds like an interesting read. I know kyme hasn’t the best reputation but I think he has good ideas for stories Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354474-mercy-of-the-dragon/#findComment-5275231 Share on other sites
Skalpynock
It shows the best portrayal of Ferrus so far, in my opinion. The enemy is also pretty scary in their own right. Fedor
Is this just an eshort repeat of the story that was in the Primarchs anthology? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354474-mercy-of-the-dragon/#findComment-5275896 Share on other sites
Roomsky
Is this just an eshort repeat of the story that was in the Primarchs anthology? Yes, if you just wanted the story on its own. Anthology's pretty great though (`cept for maybe Shadow of the Past), well worth picking up. Izlude
Just read this from the anthology. It was okay nothing special, predictable and little flat. We get it, Vulkan is a nice guy. The whole holding the child and walking away from the blast just seems trite. I wish there would be some interesting nugget or variation. Maybe someone steps on his toes and he drops the F bomb or something. Master Ciaphas
Hail! I finished this one yesterday; I really, really liked it. If ONLY Annadale's Vulkan - Lord of Drakes novella had been written in this vein, it would have been SO, SO much better! As for the writing itself, this is a far cry better than the aweful Deathfire novel. Faithfully, Master Ciaphas Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354474-mercy-of-the-dragon/#findComment-5281871 Share on other sites
Knockagh
If it was part of the Primarchs anthology I must have read it. It obviously didn’t make much of an impact. The synopsis sounds interesting. Maybe it’s just my sieve like brain lol. I usually can remember the general outline of a story but I’ve got nothing on this. Will reread when the opportunity presents Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354474-mercy-of-the-dragon/#findComment-5282227 Share on other sites
Scribe
Lol I want to see Nicks contract. 'Finally, I and only I, may write about the Salamanders, I have a 20 year arc to complete.'
