ReAnimate Studios
Hey folks, I'm north east of England based (York) and I'm looking at getting back in to the Horus Heresy. I've been out of the loop since book 3 was released so been gone a far old while. I'm looking at starting a collecting Sons of Horus. It's a legion I've always loved but been too intimidated by the colour scheme. However I feel I will now be able to give a good effort and do these guys justice. Unfortunately when I left the hobby last time I sold all by books etc. So I am asking what kind of points are aged at the moment, what units are good and what should be avoided? I'm looking at running a fellblade as the backbone of the army as I love the model (if it is a viable option) Any suggestions on getting to a solid base for my army would be much appriciated. Many thanks in advance :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354511-comming-back-to-hh/ Share on other sites
Brother Styphus
Your army gets a crazy bonus for outnumbering the enemy, so you might want to plan around that, or at the least take full tactical squads just in case they get into a scrap. Assault marines and destroyers (recently buffed in FAQ) are bulky, so count as more bodies than there actually are. SoH rites of war are good, and gove good tactical flexibility. Your back line being relentless means you can take heavy weapons squads (super volkite especislly) and keep them mobile in your backfield, and your mod to front line zones getting movement bonuses are nasty. Yeah, Falchions are cool. Might be overkill most of the time. If you want your army to work in 40k as well, the Falchions are the best SM superheavy due to blast nerfs. ReAnimate Studios
So I was looking at something like this? Will add in a few rhinos, a storm eagle for the terminators and maybe some devastated to bring up to 3000 points. At 2500 I will drop the scouts and invest in transports. Pearson73
As you mention, transports are definitely needed to make sure everyone survives to reach targets. I'd also say that having a Praetor, Abaddon and Horus is overkill on the character front, I would either remove the Praetor completely or swap him for a consul of some sort, perhaps a Medicae for the Justaerin and the commanders? This could also allow for the Destroyers to be given missile launchers. Having power weapons on every Reaver might not be a good idea, as they're likely to take casualties, so it's useful to have a few expendable guys in the squad. Also, nice to see another Yorkshireman! Gorgoff
Why do pay 235 points for Recons? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354511-comming-back-to-hh/#findComment-5277462 Share on other sites
ReAnimate Studios
Why do pay 235 points for Recons? I was taking them for out flank, but completely missed that horus gives any unit in reserve out flank. So I would probably change them to regular marines and use additional points towards the transports Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354511-comming-back-to-hh/#findComment-5277649 Share on other sites

I'm actually Irish, been living in Yorkshire for the last 7/8 years now :) Is there much of a 30k scene about? I've not played in years. With the release of 8th everyone in my local community switched. Sadly I followed trend. Initially really like 8th. But then with all the imperial soup lists (and there equivalent) appearing I realised I despised the meta/scene and would much rather play games for the pleasure/thematic as opposed to power gaming...... The plus side is I am a better painter now and can start painting a new army :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354511-comming-back-to-hh/#findComment-5277650 Share on other sites

I know of a couple of clubs more York way, though I don't think there's much 30k going on there; guess it's always worth asking the chaps at your GW if they know any groups. I'm about an hour away from Hull I wouldn't mind the occasional commute for some decent games :) Asking in my local GW though..... Never even occurred for me to do that! Great idea thanks :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/354511-comming-back-to-hh/#findComment-5277924 Share on other sites

Never even occurred for me to do that! Great idea thanks The main gaming club there is Hull's Angels, they've got a Facebook page for the club in general and one for 30k players too, Tuesday and Thursday are club nights, I believe; they're a frindly bunch with really decent tables to play on. Hopefully they'll have a few ideas closer to home, though I know the Hull GW were pretty hazy with 30k. I'm only infrequently around in Hull, but if you ever fancy a game, shoot me a pm, I always like a day in York too.
