Mig paint, anyone tried it?

Recommended Posts

So I've just been to my local hobby shop and I asked if they had any Vallejo paint but the old dear said they didn't stock it but do have Mig paint.

Honestly I've never heard of them. But she did the whole sales pitch etc etc. So I brought two bottles. They're only £2.49 and looks like some of the range come with an agitator inside! Great idea.

So just wondering if any of our esteemed frater have used these paints and if so what are they like?

Mig's metallics are good.  Not as good as Vallejo Metal Color, but better than most metallics through an airbrush.  The non-metallic colors I've used are also good.  The enamel weathering products are top notch.

The inclusion of an agitator ball is a big plus.  I'm glad the line is expanding with the mecha colors, etc. to make the whole range more easily applied to sci fi minis.

I like to try products from different manufacturers, so I bought a few Mig paints a while back and quite like 'em.  They're fine paints, equal in quality to the fine lines available from Vallejo, GW, Reaper (MSP), Army Painter, and others.  In my opinion, these types of high quality paints have become so ubiquitous in the marketplace today that price now can be a major determinative factor in deciding which to buy.  Naturally, folks will have personal favorites and might be prejudiced to one brand over another for various reasons (personally, I'm partial to Vallejo, along with Apple Barrel acrylic craft paints for basing and terrain, but I have -lots- of products from other manufacturers too).  None of these now easy-to-find paint lines are even close to terrible products, and in my experience, all can be used to provide excellent results.  I love being able to shop around and buy according to price, more than to any particular brand name.  As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to quality brands, the more the merrier. :-)

i like Mig Jimenez products

his synthetic brushes are very cheap and of good enough quality to do most tasks, he has great products for weathering and such (scale model realism) his books are awesome!

* i also support him after he was shafted by the first company he had started but got duped out off by nefarious "Partners" (AK interactive)

so i'd rather support his ammo line and feel good about buying stuff as well :laugh.:

* please note this is my personal point of view and others should not be swayed by this statement, if you wish to purchase AK interactive products...as well as Ammo by MIG  don't let me stop you ...

Hmmm, there's a lot more to the story of him getting "shafted" by AK. It looks to me like he stole the company's entire product line and launched Ammo, which was on store shelves within months of him being fired by AK. There are also a lot of plagiarism accusations following him around from the modelling community.

AK make good products, and I actually prefer their acrylic paints. Business partnerships go sour regularly, I should know. I would hope nobody rushes to judgement and misses out on what AK Interactive produce.
