Questions about forward operatives stratagem

Hi All,

 

I am not very familiar with the chaos space marine codex but I am thinking about using a small detachment for my death guard.

 

I have a question about the forward operatives strat: It says that you can set a unit at more than 9" to enemy models at beginning of first round but before first turn (let's say I do that on a unit of possessed).

As the turn has not started yet does that mean that if I get the first turn they can move and charge as normal from 9" of enemy?

Also if I have an empty vehicle like a rhino on the field as it says "set it up anywhere on the battlefield" can I decide to set them embarked in the vehicle?

So before I answer your questions be aware that the whole Stratagem got changed in the last BIG FAQ:

 

 

Codex: Chaos Space Marines, page 160 – Forward Operatives
Change this Stratagem to read:
‘Use this Stratagem when you set up an Alpha Legion Infantry unit from your army during deployment. At the
start of the first battle round but before the first turn begins, you can move that unit up to 9". It cannot end this
move within 9" of any enemy models. If both players have units that can move before the first turn begins, the player
who is taking the first turn moves their units first.’

 

For now it's just a beta rule and is part to the changes for reserves not being able to arrive turn 1 anymore. If you don't use that beta rule this change of course doesn't affect you. However the next BIG FAQ is about to arrive in the next ~4 weeks as far as we know so they might finalize this change and switch it from beta status into an actual Errata.

 

Now to your questions.

That's right.

No, that's not possible since the units embarked in a vehicle aren't on the battlefield.
